Final Summary
The emotion I chose to explore in this project was joy. I expressed this through a very fluid model, crafted from wood and metal. The idea behind my form was a visualisation of the flow of laughter. Joy is epitomised by laughter and I wanted to express this in my form as much as possible. I chose to use metal as I was hoping to create a bell like sound, similar to a young child’s laugh.
The curved edges of the form flow seamlessly create a gentle line for the eye to follow. The form has no jagged or ‘aggressive’ edges appearing pleasing to the eye, and thus, making the observer happy.
I have come to realise that when designing I have a natural tendency to create fluid form and I will often incorporate wood as a major feature of my work. I tend towards warmer or more naturally occurring materials as shown by the materials I used in this project. As a designer I value the natural and traditional worlds, which is why I believe I value wood so much. This project has taught me to really try and push the boundaries and to not be afraid to try something different or new. Overall I feel that the projects I have undertaken in this paper have helped me grow significantly as a designer and I feel that the quality of my work has consistently improved throughout the trimester.
