INSPIRATION LIST FOR MY THEME AND IDEA
A lot of thought went into forming what was to become my theme for my poster. Even in the early stages of the project on the first day when we were analyzing the posters, the poster that I ended up choosing (despite the difficulty) had already caught my eye. My first thought of the image was how much it looked like an old fashioned poster of a video game or anime – not all posters of the two require words and let the images speak for itself. I was originally going to add text, but I thought it was interesting to follow the same example. The way the poster was also set out in terms of images placement reminded me of both two.
When our tutors told us to pick a topic that meant something to us, I was excitedly choose to do something around the lines of both video games and/or anime. Since I couldn’t really decide between the two, I decided to make some original characters and an original story/plot based around them.
Originally I was looking at basing the characters of the anime Magi (despite the fact that I still haven’t watched it) since the characters on the chosen Mucha poster looked as if they had a similar theme. However, talking to my tutor about the relationships between the characters, I felt pretty stumped about just chucking characters around on a posters without much thought which led me to take a relook at my characters.
For my latest character designs, I looked at several video games and anime that I loved to form my characters. I finally decided on having the two characters to have a best friend – partner relationship in comparison to a battle rivalry which was based off the joint idea of my favourite anime Hunter X Hunter 2011 and Megaman NT Warrior with the characters’ personality based off Ganta from Deadman Wonderland (Blue) and Toma from the anime (not the game) Amnesia (Red).
Character appearance as well had a lot of thought which revolved around games such as Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and Elsword and anime such as Digimon Frontier, Sword Art Online and Makai Ouji.
As for the location, I was thinking of scenery based of the game SMITE, but that somehow scaled off.
