Billy Utley Shines in the Chevy High Noon Shootout in His DSE "Equipped" 1972 Nova
Mooresville, NC - http://goo.gl/ektt2U. With the end of summer coming to a rapid close the @LSFest is one of the best ways to send it out in style. It was another fantastic year for Holley and the LS Fest with lots of action at Holley's hometown track, Beech Bend Raceway Park. The LS Fest is exactly as it sounds, a tribute to everything and anything powered by a GM LS engine. There is no shortage of events to test your engine with an autocross, drag racing, a speed stop challenge and much more. The event started bright and early Friday, September 5th and wasted no time getting going. The autocross kicked off and ran all the way until noon where 9 cars competed in the Chevy High Performance High Noon Shootout. More autocross action followed in the afternoon and all day Saturday. Although @DetroitSpeedInc didn't have one of the Test Cars running at the event, there was no shortage of DSE representation. Mike Dusold, Bryan Johnson, Billy Utley, Tim McGilton, Tom Farrington, Bob Bertlesen and Ken Thwaits were at the trailer with their rides making any adjustments necessary while not running their DSE "Equipped" cars in competition.
This was a great event, as the booth was the busiest it has ever been at the LS Fest with lots of interest in 3rd gen Camaro products and A-Body products. We look forward to getting the Test Cars back out and into the competition next year! We'll see you there! LS Fest Highlights: • Billy Utley won the @ChevyHighPerformance High Noon Autocross Shootout in his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Nova. • Mike Dusold, Bryan Johnson, Billy Utley and Tim McGilton had their DSE "Equipped" vehicles at the booth over the course of the weekend. • Mike Dusold finished 5th, Bryan Johnson finished 6th and Billy Utley finished 11th on the autocross. • There were many DSE "Equipped" cars competing in the events.

Six of the Top Ten Overall at the USCA Gateway Event are Detroit Speed Equipped
Mooresville, NC - http://goo.gl/0k8nlS The Ultimate Street Car Association took over the Gateway Motorsports Park July 19th -20th for some high intensity action on the autocross and road course.
The weekend started out with a driver's meeting and segment instructions followed by the design & engineering judging. The speed stop challenge and autocross began right around lunch and ran non-stop all day until 5:00 PM. If you are looking to get some real track time at an event, the USCA is the place to come. Over 1,000 laps were run just on Saturday alone! Kyle, driving the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car was just nudged out of the top spot in the over 3000lb. class by Danny Popp by under .500 of a second. DSE engineer, Ryan Mathews, also ran hard in the over 3000lb. class by finishing in 6th place. Stacy Tucker ran hard all day in the DSE 1966 Mustang Test Car but unfortunately was able to crack the top 10 in this very deep and competitive class. Karl Dunn put in a fantastic time of 0:37.617 (one of only two times sub :38 all weekend) in the under 3000lb. class in his DSE "Equipped" 1968 Camaro and claimed the autocross top spot. We would also like to mention that Detroit Speed friend, Billy Utley, finished right behind Ryan Mathews in his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Nova in 7th place on the autocross. While the autocross was going on, the speed stop challenge was also in full gear. Once again it was Danny Popp barely eclipsing the time of Detroit Speed's own Kyle Tucker to the top spot with a time of 0:12.831 to Kyle's 0:13.231.
Following a full day of autocross racing and the speed stop challenge was the Detroit Speed Road Rally that led to the Holley welcome party at Gateway Classics and a much anticipated home cooked meal compliments of the unofficial USCA chef, Albert Melchoir. There was another occasion to celebrate Saturday, Detroit Speed friend Sam Farrington turned 18 and ran in his first official USCA event to a great finish! Congrats Sam!
The next morning came quickly and started out with another driver's meeting followed by Lead/Follow laps at the Gateway road course. Everyone was looking forward to some road racing action compliments of BFG and the BFGoodrich Hot Lap Challenge. Cars were running all morning before a quick break for lunch and then action resumed until 4:30 in the afternoon. Once again it was Danny Popp who took the top time and swept the events at Gateway earning him a trip to the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge at the end of the year in Pahrump, NV after the SEMA show. Ryan Mathews ran had for DSE in the 2012 "White Monster" Camaro and finished in 3rd place while Kyle ended up in 5th place in the 1970 Camaro Test Car.
Congratulations to Bryan Johnson for winning the Detroit Speed Fastest 5th Gen Award and to Billy Utley for winning the Detroit Speed Fastest American Iron Pre-1980 Award in their fully DSE "Equipped" rides. We would also like to congratulate Rodney Prouty who received the Spirit of the Event award and a trip to the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
Detroit Speed was also pleased that six out of the top ten overall finishers were Detroit Speed "Equipped." Kyle finished 2nd overall in his DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car while Bryan Johnson finished 3rd in his 2012 DSE "Equipped" Camaro. DSE engineer, Ryan Mathews, finished in 5th place in the DSE 2012 "White Monster" while DSE "Equipped" drivers Billy Utley, Ken Thwaits, and Richard Gregory finished 7th, 8th, and 9th respectively.
This was another fun and fantastic event put on by the USCA. We enjoy the competition and love to see the fields get deeper and deeper every event. It's great to see someone who just started out a few events ago start putting up great numbers as their confidence and excitement grow. Next up for the USCA is the Portland, OR event August 1st-2nd at Portland International Raceway.
DSE Equipped Cars Take the Top Spots at the Ohio Muscle Car Challenge
Mooresville, NC – After the dust settled on the Ohio Muscle Car Challenge hosted by Orange Cone Racing it was two DSE Equipped cars taking home the top spots in the challenge. Billy Utley, driving his DSE Equipped Nova won the event with Detroit Speed's own Stacy Tucker finishing closely behind him in her 1969 Camaro Test Car for a 2nd place finish.
This was a unique event as there were three very large autocross courses that were setup. There was a different setup Saturday morning which changed Saturday afternoon and then a new setup for Sunday morning. The participants best times were accumulated from each course and then added together for final scoring. Billy and Stacy were going back and forth all weekend with Billy winning the autocrosses on Saturday (with Stacy right behind in 2nd) and then Stacy winning on Sunday with Billy right behind her. After all was said and done it was Billy who held off a hard fought Sunday charge from Stacy and was crowned the winner.
This was a really exciting event and the fact that there were three different courses kept everything fresh. We loved seeing all of our friends and competitors sporting the DSE Equipped decals on their rides. From Bob Bertlesen to Mike Reckley, The Farrington's, Ray Thompson and Rich Gregory this was a terrific showing for Detroit Speed Equipped vehicles.
We would like to thank NORA for setting up the courses and for tracking all of the times throughout the weekend. Thanks also to Lil' Jon for hosting the Saturday evening barbeque and a special thanks to Bob Bertelsen for hosting such a fantastic event! We'll be sure to see you next year.

Huge 84 Car Field Turns Out for the 3rd Annual Run to the Coast
Mooresville, NC – After the partial rain-out during the 1st Annual Run to the Alamo event in February, the racing gods gave the American Street Car Series a break with a picture perfect California weekend for the Run to the Coast.
Friday morning started off with a tech inspection and a driver's meeting before the 84 car field was split into three groups. The first group went to the 1.8 mile road course while another headed to the autocross and the last group went to the new and exciting "Speed-Stop Squared". This is a new event that features two drivers lining up side by side; starting off of a christmas tree light and drag racing, then doing a 180 degree turn and racing back through a five cone slalom before stopping in a forty-foot stop box. This added another level to the original Speed-Stop challenge and was a huge hit the entire weekend.
Competitors kept making laps until dusk set in, testing and tweaking trying to dial in that perfect lap. Kyle Tucker, the lone representative for Detroit Speed at this event, dialed in his car and lines in preparation for Saturday. Saturday morning produced another picture perfect day for racing. A quick driver's meeting ensued before the drivers separated into three groups and started competing in the events again. After a Friday full of racing, this was the day for competitors to lock in their best times for each event.
The official timing ended at 3:30 and a fastest 32 Shootout began on the newly designed Speed-Stop Squared challenge. The fastest 32 times were called out from the Speed-Stop and competitors were randomly drawn to compete side by side in single elimination until the winner emerged. Mike Maier and Detroit Speed's own Kyle Tucker were the top two qualifiers going into the shootout. With the competition high and competitors being eliminated, Mike Maier came away the winner of the first Speed-Stop Squared challenge.
Sunday, after all the competitions were over, the remaining competitors cruised over to Pomona after breakfast to the NHRA Museum led by the TCI Engineering crew. Afterwards TCI opened the doors to their facility for a quick tour of the shop.
We would like to congratulate all the winners of the events and everybody who came out to support the American Street Car Series. This was a terrific event and we look forward to competing in many more throughout the year. Congratulations to Dale Akuszewski and his Sunbeam Tiger, Dale was named the RTTC Spirit of the event nominee which qualifies him for the Optima Invitational in November.
DSE would also like to congratulate all of the DSE "Equipped" Competitors who raced it out for the Team TA contingency money.
