over a year ago I got the chance to work on the @dsmp-tarot and make these two cards. it was my first time working on a fanproject and the mods were absolutely incredible. special shoutout to mod ly, who let me interview em about working on fanzines and fanprojects like this, and spent time sending me some resources.
a few notes:
the devil was a tough card for a lot of reasons, but one tough aspect of it was trying to find a way to incorporate The Lovers onto it through symbols.
I hc netherite as being a porous bone texture, with the pores filled in with gold. never have headcanons, kids because it is a pain in the ass to try to draw without overwhelming the card with texture (too late!)
the text on the book is mostly meaningless, as I was fairly certain it wouldn't be legible in print. they're from my good friend sabo's fic!

some friends and i are planning on doing a dsmp tarot deck (decks? i am not the one who collects tarot decks in this and thus the planning is not on me), but anyway i finished the art for one of the cards and thought i'd post it

When reading this, please have in mind that I'm talking about the characters of the DSMP, not the content creators!!
When talking about tarot cards, every card means something different depending on what you ask, but they all have key meanings which is what I used to make this analysis
• The Fool (Quackity)
When upright, the fool means freedom, originality, adventure, foolishness, carelessness, idealism, spontaneity, insecurity and self deception.
When upside down, it means recklessness, negligence, apathy, irrationality, lack of hope, bad decisions and doubt
• The Magician (Wilbur)
When upright, it means power, influence, willpower, resourcefulness, skill, logic, intellect, ability, creativity and self confidence
When upside down, it means, manipulation, greed, untrustworthiness, trickery, conniving, cunning, lack of mental clarity and destructive tendencies
• The Emperor (Philza)
When upright, it means Old man (lmao), stability, dependability, fatherhood/father figure, protectiveness, logical, practical, victory and untamable spirit
When upside down, it means stubbornness, lack of control, absentee father, negative emotions and powerful enemies
• The Hierophant (Punz)
When upright, it means Tradition, conventional, conformity, commitment, truth, internal clarity and dedication
When upside down, it means lack of spirituality, challenge of tradition, non-conformity and unconventional lifestyle
(I can explain why I chose Punz for this card lmao, I might make individual posts about each card in the future to clarify why I chose them)
• The lovers (Karl, Sapnap and Quackity)
When upright, it means Love, soulmates, relationships, shared values, sacrifices and strong friendship
When upside down, it means disharmony, trust issues, imbalance, conflict, lack of accountability, bad decisions and misunderstandings
• The Chariot (Technoblade)
When upright, it means victory, overcoming obstacles, success, determination, control, self-discipline, hard work, progress, long trips and good health
When upside down, it means forcefulness, lack of direction, aggression, coercion, lack of control, lack of balance, loss and miscommunication between body and soul
• Strength (Niki)
When upright, it means inner strength, courage, confidence, compassion, overcoming self doubt and intellect over physical strength
When upside down, it means vulnerability, lack of confidence, impatience and feeling inadequate
• The Hermit (Awesamdude)
When upright, it means soul searching, self reflection, introspection, inner guidance, wisdom, knowledge and problem solving
When upside down, it means paranoia, feeling lonely, being reclusive, isolation and loss of material possessions
• The Wheel of fortune (BBH)
When upright, it means good luck, destiny, soulmates, decisive moments, cycles of life, gain and happiness
When upside down, it means bad luck, external forces, lack of control disruption, corruption, unwelcomed change and delays
• Justice (Eret)
When upright, it means consequences, legal disputes, karma, truth, cause and effect, life lessons and winning of conflicts
When upside down, it means injustice, karmic retribution, avoiding karma, dishonesty, corruption, lack of accountability and unfairness
• The Hangedman (Tommy)
When upright, it means feeling trapped, self limitation, lack of direction, needing release, letting go, commitment to a cause and lack of mental clarity
When upside down, it means impulsiveness, negative patterns, detachment and delay of plans
• Death (Tubbo)
When upright, it means new beginnings, letting go, endings, change, transition, sudden upheaval and loss of a feeling
When upside down, it means inability to move forward, fear of beginnings, fear of letting go, repetition of negative patterns, resisting change and dependency
• Temperance (Puffy)
When upright, it means balance, patience, perspective, soulmates, harmonious relationships, adapting and moderations
When upside down, it means imbalance, self indulgence, excess, lack of control, lack of perspective, antagonism and recklessness
• The Devil (Schlatt)
When upright, it means addiction, bad habits, depression, secrecy, obsession, cheating, dependency, materialism, distrust, hopelessness, sickness/disease, abuse, violence and money
When upside down, it means detachment, independence, reclaiming/asserting power and revelations
• The Tower (Dream)
When upright, it means chaos, destruction, trauma, disaster, loss, tragedy, confusion, being broke (man’s ‘omeless lmao), pain and abuse
When upside down, it means averting disaster, avoiding tragedy, resisting change, avoiding loss, avoiding karmic retribution, pride and exile
• The Star (George)
When upright, it means hope, inspiration, calmness, serenity, dreams and spirituality
When upside down, it means indifference, hopelessness, lack of inspiration, lack of creativity, lack of faith, boredom and monotony
• The moon (Fundy)
When upright, it means intuition, illusion, dreams, vagueness, instability, deception, anxiety, insecurity, danger and nostalgia
When upside down, it means releasing fear, truth, unveiling secrets, regaining composure, self deception, blocked intuition, mistakes, hard work with no reward and bad dreams
• The sun (Skeppy)
When upright, it means freedom, fun, success, vitality, joy, self expression, truth, healthy relationships and selfless love
When upside down, it means lack of/excessive enthusiasm, pessimism, unrealistic expectations, ego, lost love, lack of friendship and bad breakups
• Judgment (Sapnap)
When upright, it means judgment, awakening, realisations, decisiveness, snap judgements, apportioning blame, confessions and change
When upside down, it means indecisiveness, self doubt, lack of self awareness, unwillingness to learn karmic lessons and self blame
• The world (Ranboo)
When upright, it means success, achievements, travel, fulfillment, sense of belonging, promises, trust, wholeness, and creativity
When upside down, it means lack of success, stagnation, lack of achievement, disappointment, burden, insecurity, anxiety and pessimism
