I was wondering if there is a way to update the ‘Company’ field for a large group of users within Active Directory? I would like to match all users with a company ending in a certain string.

It would take way too long to change this for each user individually.

Using DSQUERY to find distinguished names in Active Directory

If you ever need to find the distinguished name of a user in Active Directory, you can use the following DSQUERY command.

DSQUERY.exe * -limit 0 -filter "(&(objectCategory=Person)(objectClass=User)(!userAccountControl:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=2))" > "c:\activeUsers.txt"

The above command will output all of the active users in the current login name to a text file called activeUsers.txt in the root of the C: drive.

Listar usuarios de grupos anidados

Si alguna vez tenemos la necesidad de generar el listado de usuarios de grupos anidados, tenemos varias opciones para hacerlo, sin embargo describiremos dos de ellas.

El escenario es el siguiente: tenemos un grupo llamado "asistenciaremota" y dentro de el tenemos a dos usuarios y un grupo.

La primera  las opciones es desde una consola de comandos:

dsquery group -name asistenciaremota | dsget group -members -expand

En esta forma encontraremos listado el nombre del grupo anidado pero también los miembros este.

La otra forma mas ordenada a mi forma de ver es con powershell:

Get-ADGroupMember "asistenciaremota" -recursive | Select-Object name

En este caso el nombre del grupo anidado no aparece en el listado pero si los usuarios de este.
