This was my main piece for the Constantly Obsessed Zine. The theme was “Events.” I started this in Fall 2021, and moving into the holidays I thought “Winter’s Feast” would be a good choice of event. I wanted to feature my favorite character (surprise surprise), and coming up with ideas, my mind zeroed in on this one. The whole thing is based on the examine quote Maxwell has for the Heavenly Eggnog:
Which is significant, because every other Christmas-centered/Winter’s Feast-centered quote has Maxwell being an absolute grouch about the festivities. I chose to believe that he associates the holidays with Charlie, and now he’s trying to distance himself from thoughts of her, and the pain that goes with them.
However - maybe there’s room for one warm and happy memory.
I’m proud of the colors here (though I went a little nuts with effects and confetti brushes). I wanted his memories to appear golden and warm, contrasting with the chill of the present moment. Even still, there’s a warmth creeping into his face, his skin, even the eggnog cup seems to glow with a faint heat.
The composition took a long time to figure out - I was originally going to feature only one memory vignette, but I couldn’t find a way to position the figures around the Maxwell in the center that I was happy with. I ended up going with two vignettes, which I like because it makes it seem more like he’s reliving an event in his head, as opposed to just one image.
[extra: these are some of the other examine quotes for winter’s feast. He’s really Scrooge-ing it up here: ]
A piece I did for @constantly-obsessed-dst ‘s event themed DST Zine- My prompt was The Cawnival! This one was really fun, especially since I hadn’t really tried doing ‘lineart’ with a very large piece like this- but I like the effect quiet a bit
The zine was entirely for-fun and no profit, so if you want to check out the whole thing you can access the download for it here for free.
Wilson's got a veritable day-care following him around now, but he's happy.
Months of hardwork, all done. Its' been a pleasure to all those involved! :D
