@dthnte sent: “ i can’t make you trust me. but i’m gonna stick around long enough for you to realize you can. ” / for light / accepting!
honestly, the thought that misa expects light to trust her is laughable. and he’d laugh, but exhaustion has set in and he’s starting to wish he had even one place where he could be free from people. even if he goes up to his room, she occasionally follows him there. why do people take lovers, anyway? he knows the answer to the question — it’s societal pressures, the need for procreation with the human construct of families. and if he weren’t so tired (if he weren’t god) he might actually want something like that. a wife. kids. a family. if he relaxes the muscles in his face and stares up at the blades of the ceiling fan, he could probably imagine having two kids, a boy and a girl, inviting his parents and sayu over and hearing them marvel at how intelligent and well-behaved the kids are. sayu would bring them presents, and as she asks light where to put them, misa would come out of the kitchen wearing an apron and start to laugh and chat with sayu...
wait. why is misa in the role of his wife in this scenario? light’s nose crinkles just slightly, a look of subtle disgust crossing his normally pristine features. in some way, maybe that does mean he feels he can trust her. but yagami would never admit that. of course, he can’t. how had amane come into his life? by investigating him, demanding she become his girlfriend. every step of the way, she’s been a threat. too pretty to break up with, too intelligent to betray, and then there’s the issue of her shinigami, too...
“ ... okay.” what else is he supposed to say? that he does trust her already? she’d squeal with delight and give him a headache. no, it’s better for her to feel like she has work to do. she’ll be more obedient that way. “i expect you to do your best.”
