“Blurred Line” This week an issue that I’ve addressed in my work before (and I fear, I will keep on addressing, seeing as it’s going nowhere fast) was broached as Republicans sought to draw away attention from the growing number of “smoking-guns” that continue to surround #potus. Whereas my piece “Dual Loyalties” is a sort of tongue-in-cheek play on the idea of the juxtaposition of the traditional with modern, I still chose a loaded Antisemitic claim that has haunted Jews for countless generations. The claim invokes those stereotypes of a Jewish cabal that run the world, and who cannot be trusted for their nefarious scheming etc. The very kinds of things that Richard Nixon notoriously was caught on tape espousing, that American Jews are to be Americans first, and Jews second. What @ilhanmn tweeted with regard to Israel and America’s special interests in their economic support and success does not, to my mind speak to this harmful trope. Rather, she does address the conception that groups like @aipac and others have built in American politics regardless of party, the “Israel Right or Wrong” narrative. To be critical of Israel is not to be antisemitic. Admittedly though, the issue becomes the money- trope and it’s interconnectedness with anti-Jewish prejudice, a very fine line to walk, and one that is all to easily skewed. The irony of ironies of course is @realdonaldtrump above all people is incredibly antisemitic even despite Ivanka, Jared, and his grandchildren all being Jews. You know who believes in the libel of “dual-loyalties”? That alt-right base of yours, Mr. Trump. . . . . . . #weekinreview #ilhanomar #antizionismisntantisemitic #dualloyalties #headlinenews #capitalhill #collage #handmade #politicalfootball #cutpaper #collageart #editorial #illustration #opinionart #oped #politicalcartoon #collageartist #editorialillustration #israel #foreignpolicy #lobbyists #judaism #antisemitism #rhetoric #adineroillustration https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu2rdq_FjC9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=biy6q1kusunr
