Ive been meaning to make this post a while back but since its our lil Hueningie’s birthday this is the perfect occasion to do this.

When we speak of Huening Kai we talk about how he’s the sunshine, the angel, the beloved maknae. His zany sense sense of humor, his bright energy, how he heals the members the members with his care. People might talk about his drive and his resilience, how he takes the lead when the rest falls apart.

But that’s all Huening Kai the public figure. What about Huening Kai the idol, the performer? I think his talents as a performer are among the most overlooked among the boys.

In my head, Huening Kai is one of the most integral pillars to txt. He is what makes txt, txt. This group’s concept doesnt work without him. The concept of this group is very clear. You think “txt”, you close your eyes, you clearly see something. And whatever you saw, Huening embodies it. With “youth” as its forefront, HK has that visual of an eternal youth. He looks like a innocent teen boy and a dashing fantasy prince at the same time, blurring the lines of time and reality (two very big points of the concept). The image of innocence, of purity. You see the Crown video? Heuning Kai in that pink sweater? Take that out, and you’d have to cancel the whole video.

In the .mp3s, he embodies this concept with his voice. His biggest contribution to this group is with his vocal work. There are stronger vocalists in this group, but its about the character in his voice, the color. Its so distinct and so txt. Think about any chorus of any title track. The soaring melody of dreams and heartache and emotion. Who sang it? Probably Huening. His voice is so warm and so comforting. I feel like living in his voice, and falling asleep in it.

I dont understand dance enough to judge it. But im talking about his stage presence, his energy on stage. Again, there might be better performers, but the character of his stage is unique to him. He consistency applies energy to his dancing, he is completely engaged, his expressions are so expressive. He breathes life into the entire performance. This is why i think we tend to overlook it. He is reliable. The fact that he will give his 100 is a given.

Another thing i love about him is how he transforms with concepts. He cant be beat with bright concepts, but what happens with the darker colors of today’s txt? He can show his teeth, but there is also the shadow of the innocent boy that once was, caught in the war, that still could be saved. In Puma he is the cub that looks at the moon and misses his mother. In Chaos Chapter he is the Snow Prince, frozen under a sheet of apathy. In GBGB he is the fragile lover shattered by rage. In Name Chapter he is the sunkissed child under the daze of the Devil’s enchantment.

I think the common thread in all the points i mentioned is acting. He is a great actor, through his craft. He becomes the vessel for the story, and does it so effortlessly that he becomes faceless in the process.

So happy birthday to Huening Kai, the boy that stole our hearts with his molang plushie self, but also. Was patient with himself and others as he created this artist out of himself with slow and careful deliberation. And in the process made txt what we love.

THE MONTH OF TXT

There's lotttsss coming up from txt and im super excited but also. a tad bit worried.

SWEET- 5th July

When I heard this was gonna be a full album i was sooo hyped. Since we have JPN versions of all the Titles now, we could expect at least a handful of original tracks right? No we just got one :/ I have yet to listen to the whole album, and who knows, it might be an enjoyable listen front-to-back, but im still disappointed.

As for the song herself: I wanna talk about it in another post but Hydrangea Love is an easy classic txt homerun. Slower romantic track. Killer vocals. Huening Kai. What more do you need?

Im genuinely confused about how the album dropped. SRR JPN dropped in late June, then Hydrangea Love also dropped before the album was set to release? Why?

Do It Like This- 7th July

here the marketing is confusing me. They announced it as a "comeback", and are clearly treating it as such. Did Jun have to go caramel for a collab track? I dont remember making this much noise for Valley of Lies.

I suppose Jonas Brothers is a much bigger name, but they haven't done anything relevant since their comeback in 2019 either.

Idk the hype around this is very high and it can very easily fall through. It can very easily end up sounding like a pop song from 2015, no txt-ness in sight. Ryan Tedder is the producer i think which puts me even more at edge.

Another thing is the timing. Placing both the JPN album and this Collab so close to each other doesnt seem like a good idea to me. How do we get the time to properly promote both? I thought they were shooting for a proper comeback later in the year (it still might happen, which furthers my point.) The US leg just ended, there is Lolapalooza...

I just think there is too much going on surrounding txt. Its been one thing after another for years at this point. I would rather have them properly rest for a reasonable stretch of time, and have more complete projects, rather than rushing one-song-releases.

Our Lost Summer- 28th July

Again marketing i was like "what is this???🤔" in the comments till a kind moa explained its a tour documentary. From Disney Plus :/

But why Our Lost Summer as the title though? Doesnt that automatically make you think of 2020? We didnt lose that summer we made the best out of it. Shouldn't it have the sentiment of Our Glorious Summer?

To be fair i did want there to be a One Dream Season 2, a full-circle moment. bc One Dream was about their first time taking on the U.S as txt, and after three years its their first world tour. But without Mnet's involvement.

I hope this can be introspective and delve into the persepectives and experiences of each member and kind of like round up their career until now (i basically want a doc about txt as a whole not just that summer). Instead of just "here's some tour footage". Honestly id take that too bc ive been hungry for high-quality tour footage. The whole thing on streaming would be the ideal but. I'll take anything 🤲🤲

Man looking back at it all will be great that moment in time. felt so unreal. Best time of my life? Arguably.
