I am graduating this weekend (yes, I am officially Mama Duck, J.D., 6/6 a lawyer) and playing tourist with my family all weekend so I am running a graduation duckie queue.

Countdown to Reylo Fanfiction Anthology due date: 21 days

Three weeks left to go, everyone! We can do it. I’m so excited to see everyone’s @reylofanfictionanthology pieces!

Here’s the thing: you cannot tell another human being what to do, how to think and/or feel, and what to read and/or write. No one has to justify themselves to you.

You never know what someone is carrying with them, and they do not have to explain their personal history to you, nor should they be expected to.

Just because a person prefers a particular character or pairing to yours does not make them a bad person. We are human. We might find different things interesting, and that is okay. The things we read and write about are just a small sample of all the things we like and enjoy and find compelling, and of who we are as people.

“Shipping” means that you believe that there is a story to be told about a relationship between two particular characters. It does not mean that it is the kind of relationship you aspire to, or have in real life, or believe that is okay. Sometimes shipping to me means “if these characters were walking down the street I’d say they make a handsome couple.” Sometimes it means “I think these characters would have great chemistry and/or compatibility if they met, I’d like to write about that dynamic.” And sometimes people just want to see their two favorites get together, or to be platonic soulmates. None of these are wrong or invalid interpretations of how to “ship”.

Fandom is for everyone, not just for the people who think like you.

There is no reason to attack and send people hate for anything, ever, particularly not regarding fictional characters and pairings.
