Oscar and Louise One Sunday morning in the spring I went out for a walk with our old dog Henry. We walked through the vast plains of our beautiful region along the road. There were not many cars driving there. Suddenly the old Ford of Charles Baker came around the corner. I waved hello and he stopped by. “Hi, do you want some ducks?” He asked through his open vehicle window. Without waiting for an answer, he handed me a little box. “Be careful, this is a moving gift! Take good care of them, they have just lost their mother!” He said and drove away. Somehow I was a little bit surprised, but I knew Charles Baker for a long time and he was always good for a surprise. Charles was being keen on keeping the environment clean. He has founded his own organization and also took care of animals. He was but I kept the box carefully in my hands and opened it. There were two little chicks in the box. They greeted me with a timid squeak. I was so much surprised that I almost dropped the box. I felt that they were scared. Henry came over and sniffed carefully around the box and the two chicks got even more excited. I tried to calm them down. Two pairs of eyes were watching me carefully. I closed the box and carried them home. They were squeaking the whole way long. Henry walked by my side without leaving alone and watched the box curiously. Back at home, I let them out in our garden and was preparing a little bowl full with water. They were running around like crazy, but at least they did not run away. Finally, I found out that it was a girl and a boy, a happy queeking couple. Full of happiness they were bathing and splashing. It was such a pleasure to watch them. My heart was melting. I thought about where to put them over the night. We had never ducks before. So I had no experience in raising up little ducks. The good thing is, nowadays you have the possibility to find all information on the internet. And we made it.
