Well, today was that day again, wasn't it? Madi could tell by the panicked levels on the street of her district, district ten. Her darling district, so perfect and beautiful. Pfft. How stupid. She knew she would be chosen, it was her way of thinking. Negatively. It was her way of getting by, and keeping calm. And, of course, the reward system, since she wouldn't be chosen, she'd be given a gift of relief, for just one more year, thank Death. The redhead made her way to the wealthier side of the district, moving quickly as not to disturb anybody who was busy saying goodbye to their children, saying them loved them, reassuring them that no, they would not be chosen, it was a one in a million chance, of course they would be safe. Idiots, the choosing was chance, not voting. Just because the children were small and young, did not mean they were safe, not at all. Hell, she didn't even like livestock, why did she have to come here from seven? Sigh. When the petite girl arrived home, she entered a busy house, and stood in the doorway, baffled at what was going on, before coming to her senses and sprinting upstairs, avoiding the occasional business associate or maid at all costs. At the same speed as before, she changed, from her usual shorts, shirt, and long jacket, into a drab and boring dress, the one obligatory by her mother for the choosing. The dress was short, revealing, and entirely too grey for her liking. Ew. Also, it was itchy, double ew.
Quietly, with her older sister, little brother, and mother, (father was always too busy. How stupid.) she made her way to the area set up by a crew of peacemakers, usually just an open lot, that now held a large stage with screens and lines and everything she hated. "Let's just get over with it," was a dark murmur that escaped her lips before she could seal it away. Shit. The attentant, currently checking that she was actually herself, glared up at the girl in a stony silence. Well, okay.
After moving out of the hellish line, Madi quietly stood at the back of the crowd--she had finished around last of the females, and lurked behind everybody else and their fearful whispers. The gene of being irritating seemed to thrive in this god-forsaken district. Tch. As the district representative from the capitol, a young, pretty woman dressed in feathers, feathers everywhere, even in her rich blonde (how uncommon--it actually looked..real.) hair, a large spectacle of a hat sat atop her head, made of peacock feathers, entered onto the stage, the whispers became hushed, anticipation filling the now soundless air, except for the click, click of the woman's shoes,
"WELL," Her voice stated, warm and sugarcoated, sounding slightly forced. "Welcome, everyone, to the drawing of the fifty sixth Hunger Games! As you all know, as in every other Games, each of the twelve districts will sacrifice two of their children to represent them in a battle, to gain honor, riches, and everything they've ever dreamed of! Of course, I'm the tribute manager, Perimet Livey, as all of you know. Now, now, it is time to start the drawing, yes?" Click, click, she walked over to the first glass bowl, filled with pieces of white paper, all names of the female citizens under eighteen and glancing down into it, a smile beaming on her face as she circled her hand around and around the rim until finding it's place and digging into the bowl, as gracefully as she could manage, before removing just a slip of paper, ripped at one end. Perimet paused, slowly opening the slip and reading the name quietly. Oh, a daughter of a wealthy man, how entertaining would this be! "And the female tribute is.. Madilyne Brynne." Motioning to Madi, Peri (as she liked to be called by her friends, and of course her tributes,) scooted towards the female, helping her up the stairs, still wearing that cheesy smile.
A look of horror had crossed the redhead's face, before quickly changing to indifference. No. No, this couldn't be happening, why her, why her, no, god no. Terror filled her veins, adrenaline was the only thing that kept her from freezing up. In the distance, she could her her little brother call, and scream, out, "No! No!" while mother and sister just stood there in shock, eyes wide in disbelief.
Peri smiled even larger, before leading the redhead into her spot and moving to the male bowl. "And now, for the males!" Her hand fished around a bit, she seemed to be looking fairly deep into the bowl, before grasping one near the bottom and yanking it out, bringing a couple of the other notes flying out of the bowl and fluttering to the ground. "And for the male tribute is.." Once again she paused, for suspense, before opening the slip of paper and reading it over a few times. "Infrno Blazer."
