#Fishermen push out their #DugOutCanoe #Hodi (#konkani) for #drydocking on the dry sandy portion of the #KarwarBeach The local fishermen have given up 25km of coastline for the Naval Base, where they and their ancestors have carried out #fishing for hundreds of years. This 25 km of coastline, rich in fish fauna, has been occupied by the Indian Navy. The fishermen who were displaced and provided land elsewhere, as per the rehabilitation package given by the government has not replaced with the resources that was lost to the local fishermen or the agriculturists. The fish yield in the other part of the sea is not good enough. Moreover their regular excursions into the sea are often hampered by the Naval vessels and Coastguard.
