Gwen knew that she wasn’t the only person who had lost their family to the rebellion. It had happened to lots of people but that didn’t make the loss of her parents and her brothers any easier. The weight of that loss on top of everything else had crushed her. Coming home to District Three hadn’t soothed her the way it had after her games. There was nothing left for her there. That fact made it easier to accept Annie’s invite to stay in District Four. The blond wasn’t sure if it had initially only been an invitation to visit but it had certainly turned into something more as Gwen had decided to move in permanently.
Annie had become her family. She filled the role of a mother in more ways than Gwen had expected the girl only a handful of years older could. Gwen also got to be something of an big sister or an aunt now. In her eyes things were good, better than they had been in years.
“ I love that all the sunscreen in the house is in my bathroom.” It’s a joke, well kind of considering she was the one who used it in a near constant state. “ I think I’m gonna go lay in the hammock out back if you wanna join me ?” It’s one of her favorite spots in the house, maybe even the district.
