Los Angeles based singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Axel Mansoor is growing to be quite a force to be reckoned with ever since he made his debut with Wasted My Love and set our hearts afire with his tender melting R&B pop and chill funk. Now another rising SoCal artist, production auteur Dulsae, has taken that debut and crafted an absolutely gorgeous electronic remix out of it. Dulsae’s future bass edit takes us on an epic journey with exhilarating crests and ambient rolling valleys. It’s a breathtaking, wondrous beauty of a re-work that confirms that my love for both these artists has not been “wasted”. The remix is a free download, here.

I’m not sure what the story is behind Dulsae’s production moniker, but the name seems to evoke everything dulcet and sweet. I suppose it’s fitting that the emerging Brooklyn producer returns with a remix of a song which itself is a honeyed enchanter. He transforms Norwegian duo Elsa & Emilie’s folksy pop jangler Chains Of Promises into a vast and expansive but chill soothing aria. The remix fills me with bright wonder. It’s a cosmic sparkler that fuses a future aesthetic with tropical house, like Porter Robinson, Kygo, and Gryffin all rolled up in one. 2017 sees Norwegian duo Elsa and Emilie kickstarting a new era for album Kill Your Darlings, moving away from the Sabrina Carpenter-esque teen pop-folk crossover that characterised their 2014 debut, Endless Optimism, to a darker slice of dreamwave echoing Banks and Bat For Lashes. Now in their 20s (they started young!), the pair have adopted a dark period drama image in their performances and videos, distancing themslves both sonically and stylistically from the light and brightness that characterised their debut.

While mainly exuding morose and thoughtful vibes this era, the pair have also teamed for the first time with outside producers to reimagine certain tracks. This remix for Chains of Promises features Brooklyn producer Dulsae on his first major-label remix release. Dulsae’s remix adds a breezy tropical-lite style to the track alongside the duo’s Rebecca and Fiona-esque vocals, and, while maintaining the original instrumental chorus, switches up the Ward Thomas meets Say Lou Lou Americana vibes to a drop more like something out of SeeB’s repertoire. The producer’s worked before with previous Y! featured acts Lucian, The Knocks, and M Maggie - so has good credentials to be right up our street. 5 stars!
