Artemis and her Nymphs
Well here she is folks.
If you remember the illustration at the end there and don’t know me, hi I’m the one that drew that, and it was over ten years ago!
It remains one of the few pieces that old that I still like, so when I set out on this journey I’m taking to relive my college years full of queer art, Artemis was one of the first pieces that came to mind.
It was also the only piece I felt didn’t need a revamp, so at first I wasn’t going to touch it. After doing 2 others however (posting here soon) I finally decided I wanted to take the concept back to the drawing board and start from scratch.
The original piece was for a college assignment, and I remember what my original vision was. I also remember I sacrificed a lot of that vision because my skills weren’t there yet. It was a pleasant surprise the work gained traction on the internet, and despite my personal disappointment with the sacrifice, people of the internet showed me why I should love it anyway. Y’all were very convincing.
Still all these years later I remembered what I’d wanted, and wondered what it might look like to actually achieve. So, I went at it again with my new skill set, and I feel I’ve gotten far closer to what I originally imagined! I also made some general tweaks for it to stand apart, mainly having the nymphs be all totally different women rather than clones, different viewpoint etc, but hopefully it lives up to the awesome hype the first one got.
The original will always have a place in my heart, but I’m glad I took a crack at it again. If for nothing else, it’s proof I’ve come a very long way, and I’m proud of that :)
