Dumpster diving
Cody and I officially started dumpster diving. I never realized how much food gets wasted everyday. We went last night and there was enough good fruit and veggies in the aldis dumpster to feed a family of 4 for probably over a week. It’s insane what companies throw out that could be given to the homeless or the poor.
It may sound gross to eat food from a dumpster and that’s what I always thought but you just have to search for the right stuff. Most of it is still in the package and then all you have to do it take it home and soak it and wash it off.
We have close to 5lbs of fresh blue berries that I froze last night and a 1lb of strawberries. As well as a 2 or 3 lbs in the fridge. We also found two dozen almost perfect roses that are now in vases in our house. I was also lucky enough to find an almost full bottle of fabric softener which we haven’t had in a long time and a half a bag of cat food for our cat.
I may have people delete me for talking about this but I don’t really care. Doing this for food once a week will help us save money we need to pay off debt especially while Cody is laid off for 3 weeks in July.
Honestly any of you parents out there who live by aldis and love fruit and veggies I truly suggest you try searching their dumpster for food at the end of the day. It’s insane how much produce they throw away that is still perfectly good. They throw away entire bags of apples just because 1 apple has a dent.
Cody and I also discussed if we have time just taking all the good food we can’t keep (due to room) to our local food pantry or to the hope chest so other people in need can also have things they need. We both like to help people but don’t have the money most of the time to help others.
I will keep you guys updated on what stuff we find. I’m hoping to find more things for the house like furniture and decorations.
Any other dumpster divers have any suggestions or tips?
