No because every time I think Dune has reached it's peak of weirdness, some shit like this is just casually thrown in there.

Okay so Dune had a glossary in the back, and y'know why? Because the Dune universe has a lot of fuckin weird words in it. So obviously, they made glossaries standard in the continued books, right?

Which means I must do what any Trekkie Duniverse fan would do in this situation: go to Memory Alpha the Dune Fandom page ...

So of course this is a word Frank made up, for a completely unrelated book, in which he provided just enough context to inspire the imagination with a clear outline, without explicitly describing it enough to enforce a specific idea.

And of course it had nothing to do with the Dune universe until Brian & Kevin decided to use it with practically no context for us to figure out wtf a chairdog is 😭😭

Once again sad but true. This is why Dune is an essential read for every history buff. You do not have to be a science fiction fan or be an avid consumer of this genre to enjoy this space opera because it reads more like historical fiction than a sci-fi saga. And a lot of that has to do that the original creator, Frank Herbert, was a student of history. His son, Brian Herbert, and his co-author Kevin J. Anderson have had big shoes to fill to continue this saga but I think they've done a pretty good job so far. In that same historical vein which prompted Frank Herbert to base many of his characters and their many futuristic societies on real people and cultures; the strong critique of governments and institutions and how history is told and retold is kept.

In this case, it comes from an outsider's perspective. Although, Erasmus ends up showing that he is just as insightful and understanding as his human creators. I think this, along with his actions in Sandworms of Dune, show that very well.
