@tolkienocweek Day 1: Family Members of Canon Characters
So, I am relatively new to the Tolkien fandom (fully blaming @astriiformes & @scribefindegil's wedding for this) but I have dived in hard and the fanfiction bug has bitten...
This is Tindîliel, she is a Dúnedain Ranger who is descended from Tindómiel (Elros' only daughter), but she does not know that yet. She is badly injured by an orc ambush and carried back to Rivendell for healing. Her story will be about fighting through recovery, and eventually finding a place for herself in Rivendell since she is no longer able to be a Ranger due to her catastrophic injuries.
Drawing is not one of my artistic abilities, so I am making use of several picrews this week.
I have about 8K words written of this fic so far, and I will hopefully be posting the first chapter for the Freeform prompt at the end of the week. Here is a fic snippet until then!
Elrond sat by her bed the next day and pondered the young woman laying before him. By all logic she should not have survived. Even for one of the Dúnedain, these injuries should have killed one of the Second Born. She should have bled out, or died in surgery, but she hung on. He watched the slow rise and fall of her chest, sensing that she would soon wake. Her spirit was strong, her mind seemed intact, but her body was so catastrophically damaged ... The girl stirred, and he leaned closer. She opened her eyes. Grey eyes. His eyes. Elros' eyes. Of course. He could feel it now in her Mannish fëa, she was a distant niece, likely descended from a sibling who did not inherit the throne of Númenor. The small amount of his twin's blood that ran through her veins would explain how she had survived that blood spilling out as she lay broken in the mud for hours before the other Rangers found her. Imladris was once again refuge for the line of Elros, as it always would be. He reached out to take her hand, her one unbroken limb, but stopped. She did not know him, she may not even know of their relation. There would be time to determine that. She would be here for a very long time while she recovered. The rush of affection he felt for her as long lost kin would be satisfied later. For an Elf these injuries taking a few decades to heal would pass in the blink of an eye. For a Man, even a Dúnedain, even a descendant of his twin, this recovery would take a significant portion of her lifetime. From what his twins had told him, she was still young. She had not yet reached her third decade of life. Unless he was wrong about her heritage, she would likely age slowly, and her lifespan would far exceed what was expected for Men, slightly more than the other Dúnedain. But even with that this would significantly alter the course of her life. She did not have hundreds of years for her body to fully reshape bone and dissolve scar tissue. She would likely walk again with time, but her days as a Ranger were undoubtedly over. He resolved that he would find something fulfilling for her here in Rivendell, if she wanted to stay. He certainly wanted her to stay, to hold one of the remaining pieces of his family close for the short time that she spent in Middle Earth.
