I cannot stress enough the feral desire to play d&d (or some sort of tabletop game) with people. It's so hard for me to find literally anybody who shares the same interest. Most people's interest stop at virtual games or just a mild interest in watching/listening to others play (critical role, d20, the adventure zone, etc). Or nobody wants to dm, but I'm not a seasoned dm yet 😢 I'm on a low simmer but one day.
FAHIMA: Who is Fahima Tadhg? Well, I don't think she fully knows, so how could I? I picked these tracks based on what Fahima has said and done, obviously not all the lyrics are perfect, but I choose to make them more metaphoric at the very least when they don't seem to fit as well. What we do know is Fahima is strong willed, young and naive, but full of love and care...Especially for ani- er, creatures. For a full description of why I chose each track, keep reading.
Beautiful Freak by One-Eyed Doll (grungy/rock): This track is about liking the ones who stand out, when the ones who stand out aren't loved by others. In Fahima's case, this is true for humans and other sentient races of Ain, and to the other living creatures. From Bugbears, to giant centipedes! This song is the first song because it's a part of who Fahima is.
I Am The Fire by Halestorm (modern hard rock): This song is about bolstering yourself high up. Being your own strength. This song is second because it is who Fahima is when we are introduced to her, we don't see her become this. “I promise to myself, me and no one else: I am more than this.” Also the fire part, duh.
we fell in love in october by girl in red (indie): Fahima has talked about having feelings she can't describe for someone in the past, and this song is here to represent that. Fahima wouldn't call it love herself, but it's because she didn't know. “You look so pretty and I love this view.” This is placed here because it is still before she met her current group.
Crazy cover by Digital Daggers (idk chill cover?: This represents Fahima's denial about who she is. She wouldn't call what she felt during 'we fell in love in october' love, because she wouldn't allow herself to. The idea is “crazy”, so she doesn't even allow it to be real. “Crazy. I'm crazy for feeling so lonely.” (Original: Patsy Cline, 1961)
Barracuda by Heart (80's Rock): I had to get a Heart song on here. Taken literally, the lyrics are pretty specific to Ann Wilson and who she is talking about. But, overall, the song is about going against those who try and tell you what to do. Specifically, it is about not accepting being talked down to by men as a woman. Ann was condescended to by a music producer, so she wrote this song. Fahima, early on, previewed people trying to help her as condescending. This is in this spot to represent those times Fahima rejected help to try and prove she did not need it. She is more accepting of it now, knowing that her group has faith in her strengths and she is more willing to accept help for her weaknesses.
Crush by Tessa Violet (Pop): This represents her realizing she has feelings for someone. The lyrics feel like they are from a sort of naive side. A side that has this ideal relationship in their head. The potential pit falls don't matter, right now she just wants to be someone's “crush”. “I can't focus on what needs to get done/I'm on notice hoping that you don't run “
Coming Clean by Green Day (Punk): While 'Crush' represents Fahima's naivety, and real basic need to feel connection with someone, romantically (again, even before she might realize, or want to admit, that's what the feeling is), Coming Clean serves as a transition period. It has a double meaning, Fahima is both coming clean with herself, and coming clean to Lily, who is encouraging her. She's admitting to herself, and Lily, that not only does she have romantic feelings for someone, she has romantic feelings for someone of the same sex, and connecting these dots to her past experience ('we fell in love in october'/'Crazy'). “17 and coming clean for the first time. I finally figured out myself for the first time.”'
Boogeyman by Black Casino and the Ghost (alt/indie): OK, these last three, and the next one, are sort of all around the same time, but it was a big thing for Fahima. Where 'Crush' is more naive, and 'Coming Clean' is figuring out what she wants, 'Boogeyman' is a bit more intense, and serious. Well, the song itself is fun. But, what I mean is, this song seems to be about the world chasing after the “Boogeyman”, while the singer (Fahima being the surrogate) is not afraid, and has an attraction. There's an excitement when the Boogeyman is scratching on the windows. This is obviously about Fahima's recent romantic interest, but it's also just how she views all creatures. “El chupacabra no va comer nos” (literally “the goat sucker won't eat us”).
I Don't Want to Set the World On Fire by The Ink Spots (30/40s music): OK, technically this is the end of the series of songs about the same thing, but I was scrolling through my music and I couldn't not put this song in. Pretty self explanatory, I mostly just thought it was funny.
