The City of Ottawa would like to provide an update on the windstorm and tornado recovery efforts.
The City of Ottawa has some updates on the resources available to those affected by the six tornadoes that hit the city and surrounding areas last week.
Disaster Recovery Assistance applications (information is available online about applicants from low-income households and eligibility caps) are now open for these areas:
Local and provincial politicians are continuing to post updates:
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson
City Councillor Eli El-Chantiry (Ward 5, West Carleton-March)
City Councillor Rick Chiarelli (Ward 8, College)
City Councillor Riley Brockington (Ward 16, River)
MPP Merrilee Fullerton (Kanata-Carleton)
MPP John Fraser (Ottawa South)
The federal government should not be contacted as the recovery efforts are being handled on a municipal and provincial level only.
Check out this post from @destinedbyafatesocruel for information on how to make donations. Anyone looking to help is being asked to stay away from unsafe areas for now - as of yesterday, some parts of Dunrobin were off-limits to the public - but West Carleton Secondary School (3086 Dunrobin Road) is open and accepting volunteer registrations. Local businesses and community groups northwest of Ottawa (1, 2) are also helping out and may be looking for volunteers.
Canada Post can be contacted at 1-800-267-1177 as mail delivery isn’t taking place in unsafe areas, and ODSP/OW recipients who need immediate assistance should call 311.
