I was legit about to send an ask about where I should start because your posts have finally convinced me I need this in my life.
oh 1000% start with Twilight Mirage
so the way Friends At The Table works to my knowledge is there are three universes
1. The Hieron Universe. This is the fantasy series, it’s supposed to be tremendous but also very heavy, my friend Nina assures me its exquisite, but it’s hard to get into. The Marielda mini-season is the best jumping on point for it, I’ve heard.
2. The Divine Universe. Counter/Weight, Twilight Mirage, The Road To Partizan, and now the on-going Partizan. Now, I have tried Counter/Weight about five times and I have failed out every time. Which is very annoying because I want to get into it so bad. But what really clicked for me as a good jumping on point for FATT was Twilight Mirage. It’s a Science Fantasy universe that follows a utopia in decline as this society called the Divine Fleet flies around the universe. They are accompanied by machines so intelligent and skilled they are close to godlike, so are called Divines. And when episode 1 of Twilight Mirage starts, only one is left alive, the last from a fleet of 300. Later, Austin described Twilight Mirage as the team’s messy queer utopic fantasy, and I fucking dig it.
Twilight Mirage is my favorite story. Period. End of sentence. I would give a non-insignificant sum of money for the chance to experience Grand Magnificent’s story in particular for the first time again.
3. Bluff City. This one is only available on the Patreon feed for 5$ but you can listen to the first episode in the main feed, and it’s fucking amazing. It’s sort of a magical realism set of short stories set in an alternate universe Atlantic City. It’s stupendous and is probably what locked me in as a FATT fan. Yeah, I got a 5$ patreon sub before even listening to Twilight Mirage. That’s how good Bluff City is. The first arc is a two-parter and is about the most fucking stupid heist of all time and how it goes so fucking wrong. 10 out of 10.
And overall, it’s worth saying: all of FATT is queer. Most of the cast members are queer, including multiple nb people. The music fucking bangs like nothing else, and the interspersed monologues fuck me up. Some dude named Keen showed up in a monologue at the end of the Road To Partizan and i nearly fucking cried. I love it.
IMO Start with Twilight Mirage 0, the worldbuilding episode. I know its long but honestly it’s INCREDIBLE.
For the ask meme: Melanie
“Got shot by a ghost” is among the funniest lines in the entire show and her delivery is amazing.
Hot take-wise, I think Melanie for me is comparatively the ‘weakest’ of the characters in the main cast, but mostly because there’s a lot of gaps in the times we see her, so a ton of her arc happens essentially off-camera and we see the effects after the fact. Which is fine and not particularly bad, but makes her seem less cohesive to me.

I’m so curious about this after reading your posts. Could I jump into Twilight Mirage without listening to the rest of FAtT?
oh yes absolutely. like i tried several times to jump into FATT and Twilight Mirage and Bluff City are the ones that grabbed me. Twilight Mirage is the ““““sequel”“““ to Counter/Weight but you need exactly zero knowledge to just start TM because it begins like 30,000 years after C/W or whatever.
As far as I understand, the fantasy series, the Hieron games, are more directly chronological? But you can just jump in on any season of the scifi games.
Twilight Mirage is fucking incredible.
I just started TMA and it's all your fault. Only 7 eps in and it's so damn good.
I am here solely to inflict good queer genre fiction on people, it’s my goal in life.

Did she fucking forget what you talked about between making the appointment and you sitting in her chair? This is such bullshit I am so sorry Arc.
No it seems that the pearling process fucked up something severely and turned me teal, and then she was just in damage control mode.

I got The Lady Delphi which souns way to cool to be me. I might be in love though.
ah the Lady Delphi also known as The Lady Named For A City (Or Was It The Other Way Around?). she is the most important person in the Threshold City, Delphi, and all who come to Delphi must meet her. she’s fucking great.
Hey! So for that drawing meme thing you're doing I suggest Legend of Mana! Or if you've never heard of that/don't like that idea how about good ol' Legend of Zelda?
Thank you for it! I tried Legend of Mana and I just couldn't do it! *sobs* I'll give it a better try later but here is the other one!
