Scutum
Scutum: My muse rambles about a passion of theirs.
Once he starts, you can’t stop him.
He is going to tell you about how the Xenomorph queen builds her nest. It has to be somewhere with other organisms, he stresses, and he intentionally ignores the disgust on your face. He continues despite your wish for him to stop, going on for about three minutes on the scene in Alien: Resurrection, talking about how Ripley and her company escaped into the water, thinking that they were so lucky to escape the swimming Xeno, just to realise they were tricked into the nesting room of all the eggs.
When he starts talking about the hatching, the grin on his face probably concerns you. He doesn’t realise how ridiculous it is that he is smiling as he narrates what happens next. With enthusiasm, he explains how the facehuggers will spring from their eggs, aiming at the facial region of their target, then they will stick a tube down their victim’s throat to plant their next phase into their chests.
He pauses. He admits that the esophagus probably leads to the stomach, but the alien junior settles around the lungs-and-heart region anyways. He doesn’t give you time to process this -- he is already beginning to retell how the first Alien movie created perfect suspense and kept everyone on their toes. When the baby xenomorph bursts out of the chest, it will quickly find a place to hide. It will start hunting, starting from small animals, and it will grow--
At this point, you realise you have to run. You decide to NEVER ask Brett about his favourite movie ever again.
