"Dur-an-ki" - Studio Gaga x Kentarou Miura
Berserk fans have long known the power of legendary mangaka and creator Kentaro Miura. Dark Horse Manga now presents the English publication
Berserk fans have long known the power of legendary mangaka and creator Kentaro Miura. Dark Horse Manga now presents the English publication of one of Miura’s original ideas presented by Studio Gaga, Dur-an-ki. The standalone volume will contain six complete chapters of the original manga produced by Miura-sensei with art by Studio Gaga, and will arrive at bookstores and comic shops in September 2025. Dur-an-ki is an original fantasy tale inspired by Greek and Mesopotamian myths, produced by Kentaro Miura, illustrated by Studio Gaga, translated by Duane Johnson, and lettered by Studio Cutie. In ancient times, a wondrous child was born of the gods. Neither human nor god, neither male nor female, Usumgal has an inventive mind that can create solutions where they are needed most. Descending from the holy mountain, Usumgal finds friends among humans, and with each fateful encounter comes adventure and, perhaps, their destiny! Included in this English edition are extensive bonus materials showcasing Miura’s creative process including the original story outline, concept illustrations, and more.

More concept art from Kentaro Miura’s unfinished all-ages fantasy manga Duranki...because somebody was kind enough to upload the whole concept art section from the Japanese release to Google Drive. Would love to see an English translation of the text.
Hi! I’ve been following you work for forever and i’ve read a bunch of stuff from you - love your writing! I just remembered readinf an original work, a sci-fi fantasy space opera about a profecy to free a goddess in which one of the characters was called Siav and there was lots of magic and more than one chosen one and an aparently normal guy that survived earth’s destruction amidst of it all. And there were magical vanpires as well. Was that by chance written by you? Haha
I swear I'm not blushing, it's just very hot in here.
But for real, thank you! <3
Yes, that was by me! It's called Starfire; I've written it and rewritten it at LEAST half a dozen times now. It used to be up on ao3, but then there was a period where they were cracking down on original fiction, so I removed it. Right now it's not available to read anywhere; if you have any recommendations for places to post original fic, please let me know! (I really do not want to have to use Wattpad or something. GAH.)
I am really amazed that you remember Starfire and apparently care about it. MEEP. And you're not even the first person to ask me about it this year! WHAT.
I'm about to embark on a reread of Starfire with an eye to rewriting it again - mostly I want to scrap the monarchies, and change Xavier's backstory a little (I was a very young and ignorant Sia when I blithely made his parents ex-Israeli military, solely because I wanted him to know Krav Maga - wtf, past!self?!) and just kind of - update the language, especially when it comes to gender and sexuality. Also I have way too many invented words that start with A and there's no way that's not confusing. I've already renamed a few characters and changed some titles and things from the version you would have read way back when...
I have no interest in trying to publish it, either traditionally or through self-publishing, especially because I can't guarantee I'll ever write the rest of the nine book series I had planned (baby Sia dreamed big), but I'm not opposed to sharing it online somewhere, if people are okay with maybe never getting the sequels.
THANK YOU FOR REMEMBERING AND GIVING A FUCK ABOUT MY WEIRD LITTLE SCI-FANTASY THING <3
I will never stop thinking about Duranki
Happy Birthday to the late Kentarō Miura. He would've been 55 years old today.
Kentaro Miura (三浦 建太郎, Miura Kentarō, July 11, 1966 – May 6, 2021)
The most artistic manga I'll ever know, Miura will forever be one of the greats. I hope he knows that. Rest in Peace.
