Mildred: Darlin' if there's one thing I've learned in all my years on the road, it's when somebody's pining for somebody else.
Mildred: Oh, don't try and hide it, now. Follow your heart, remember?
Now, I was a reluctant Destiel shipper. I thought that shipping was something that was unfounded wishful thinking.
The show slowly changed my mind. By season 11 I definitely had some Destiel feels. I had already gotten some inklings that maybe it wasn't such a far fetched idea after all. I still resisted, though.
But this scene right here, this was the moment. I reacted with confusion. Mildred is set up as a trustworthy person in this episode. She knows about ghosts, and Sam and Dean reveal that they are hunters. They trust her; the audience is supposed to trust her, too.
So I believed her when she said Dean was pining after someone, presumably Amara. But I didn't buy that. Sure, Dean had a weird bond/attraction thing with Amara, but he was still disgusted with her from afar. He wasn't pining after her. He didn't have romantic feelings for her.
So if it's not her, who would it be? Who else is Dean close to, who else could he have feelings for?
Who had been missing without a word for days? Who had suddenly shown up at the bunker, talking intensely to Dean, and touching him?
Sure, it was Lucifer, but he was trying to convince Dean it was Cas. Treating Dean the way he thought Cas would treat him.
