Ask for Morelgleam: What is your favourite hobby/activity?

Morelgleam likes to hunt bugs! Especially moths and ladybugs. He mostly just likes the challenge of trying to catch them. Sometimes though, he'll hide mothwings around the camp as a weird scavenger hunt for the kits/apprentices to do. They seem to enjoy it, and it makes Morelgleam happy.

Yeah! People can send in as many as they like. People can do all of them if they want. Go crazy.

🧡(Clanwide)- Who in the Clan has the most interesting (relationship with) gender? Whether that be xenogenders or something else.

I feel like out of everyone, it would be Blackstripe. Void has his preferred pronouns (He/Void), but I can see him also being fine with any other pronouns. Void could care less what other people refer to him as long as they include he/void pronouns in the list.

💛 Are there any queer relationships in your Clan? Describe them!

So far, not really, aside from one. Dustdevilclan doesn't have a lot of couples so far, and I'm like, 30 moons in the save as of right now.

It does have a poly relationship between two characters we know, and a new guy who has yet to join. I think it's cute, but it's also new so there isn't much to say about them aside from the fact I adore them so much!

🤎 Are you going to do anything special for Pride month on your Clangen blog? Anything to look out for?

I already posted one bonus picture of Morelgleam and Hawkpaw, and I have a drawing of Irisfreckle for the CCCdiscord pride quilt event that I have yet to post here.

I'll try and draw at least one more, mostly likely of Sheriff Crestedstar, Minkmoss, and Sootclover, but it'll depend on how much free time I have.

drawing process for the cats?

Thank you for the ask! Honestly, this is a tough one to answer, not because it's difficult, but because I've never had to verbalize my process before. So, my apologies if it's either too long/rambly or not detailed enough. I'm not sure how to export an ibispaint speed paint, so I hope that the pictures I used are enough. The explanation is below the cut!

So, first I make a sketch of where I want the cats to be in the panel and what pose their in (I forgot to screenshot that, so my bad). Next I make rough line art of the cat and add their expression as seen below.

The letters on the character are just their initials so I remember who is who. In this stage, I don't really erase the stuff poking out of the panel. Then, I turn the layers panel transparency down to like 35%.

Next, I make another layer and redo the line art, this time more cleanly as seen below.

I also fix up the expression, add fur tufts, and add movement lines (the shaky lines around Falconpaw's body) to show that she's trembling. In this stage, I erase the line art that sticks out of the panel, and in Falconpaw's case, add her white patches on.

Next I fix up Morelgleam's line art a bit and add line art for her pelt pattern.

Next, I add a new later below Morelgleam and Falconpaw to use as the color layer as seen below.

I just color pick straight from their refs pretty much. I also add the stripe Falconpaw has on her head because I forgot it earlier.

Now, usually this is where it ends. I add the eye shines and boom! I'm finished. But, I do occasionally shade panels. I would suggest drawing a background before you shade, but as this is just an example, I'm not doing that. For shading, I add a multiply layer above the line art, crank the transparency down to 65%, and pick a dark purple color (sometimes I use other colors, but purple is my default).

My shading definitely isn't the best, but I just add it wherever I feel like it makes sense, like under the head, behind the arms, and the bottom of the tail. Now, sometimes when my characters are going through emotional turmoil, I darken their eyes and face like I did with Falconpaw.

Next, we I shade in light reflections (I think that's what their called). I make a linera dodge layer next, turn the transparency to 35%, and choose a pale yellow color as my default.

I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to this part, but I usually add the light to the front of the characters legs, the top of the ears, and their backs.

Last but not least, I add the eye shines on the line art layer!

I used to forget about this step a lot, but it really is important in adding emotion to the cats faces. For Falconpaw's, since she's going through it rn, I made them more shaky looking, while Morelgleam's are rounder.
