How I Keep Myself Fresh During Sunny Days | IT GIRL DIARIES 🫧👙
Let’s be real — sweating during a hot, sunny day is top-tier disrespectful. Nothing is worse than stepping out smelling sweet, skin glistening from all your fave oils and perfumes, just to feel like you’re sweating it all off an hour later. Like?? Excuse me?
But girl, lemme put you onto a little secret, let’s just say the summer heat has nothing on me. This trick has been around for years, but it’s recently been resurfacing on socials, so I thought it was the perfect time to add my two cents in for those girlies who aren’t aware yet.
The DIY Dusting Powder☁️
Now, yes, you can find pre-made dusting powders in-store or online. Some are even scented already. If you’re in a rush or not into DIY, that’s always an option.
But for me? I’ll always prefer making my own.
That way I can control the scent, the strength, and make sure it perfectly matches whatever vibe I’m giving that season. Whether I’m in my cocoa-butter-baddie era or smelling like sweets & flowers, my powder is always locked in and personalised.
| what you’ll need
- A large glass container with a lid
Go for glass — it keeps your powder fresh and lets your fragrances blend beautifully into the mix. Plastic? Mm-mm. It holds onto scent, and not in a good way. ( link for the one i use )
- A big powder puff (the fluffier, the better)
I’m talking about those oversized, soft puffs that look like a cloud. You can find them at beauty supply stores or online — I got mine from Shein (specifically one like this). Powder brushes work, but the puff holds the magic.
pause.. i LOVE glitter, so obviously i’m going to add it into my dusting powder lmao. i found this cute pink powder puff on shein that has body shimmer basically built into it, so now instead of using my regular powder puff, i’ve just swapped it out for the other glitter infused powder puff and GUYS omg, i’m never going back! ( here’s the link to it )
if you’re not able to get that, you can just buy regular body glitter and add it into the dusting powder itself, it’ll work the same, anyways moving on..
- Cotton pads
Just regular ones, we’re using them for fragrance infusion.
- Cornstarch baby powder (*has to be talc free )
You can get the scented version if it matches your fragrance vibe, but I personally love the unscented one so my perfumes and body oils can take center stage.
- Your fave perfume + body oil
These are the heart of this DIY. Match your oils and perfumes to your seasonal scent profile. ( you don’t need to use the exact same scent for both the oil and perfume — just make sure the notes are in the same family so they blend beautifully. )
| creating your powder
1. Fill half of your glass container with your powder.
2. Add 2–3 drops of your chosen body oil and mix it in gently with a toothpick.
3. Fill the rest of the container with more powder, then add another 1–2 drops of oil.
4. Close your container and give it a good shake.
5. Grab your cotton pad and drench it in your perfume — like, fully soaked.
6. Place the cotton pad into your container, shake everything again, then tuck the pad into the middle or bottom of the container using your toothpick.
7. Place your powder puff inside and keep it in there! Only take it out when you’re applying.
| using it correctly ( or how i do )
Now, this is the way that i apply my dusting powder. Others may apply it differently but remember, the way you make it and apply it should cater to YOUR OWN needs.
anyways, here’s the real baddie blueprint for ya..
…after i shower, i moisturize and apply my body oil, deodorant, and matching body butter if I’m using one that day, basically just do your whole after shower routine. always use a spray deodorant instead of a waxy roll-on since powders can clump with that texture. i give my body oil a few minutes to soak in and dry slightly, then i use my powder puff to apply the dusting powder to all the areas where i tend to sweat — like underarms, behind the knees, inner thighs, back of my neck, and under the chest, if you have big cherries you KNOW how annoying that area can be during the summer lmao. if you don’t sweat much, you can still use the powder to help lock in your scent and apply it to all your perfume points. i gently pat it in until it basically disappears — don’t wipe! Patting helps it melt into your skin. If there’s any visible excess, I use a fluffy brush to softly dust it off (again — never wipe). Then, I finish off with a light spritz of my perfume over the usual spots like wrists, neck, and chest — nothing heavy, because the powder already has your scent locked in.
..and that’s it!
this isn’t just about smelling good — it’s about staying soft, dry, and luxuriously scented from the inside out. the powder absorbs sweat and oil throughout the day, while the infused scent keeps refreshing as your body heats up.
noo more sticky necks or feeling like your scent disappeared 10 minutes after leaving the house. your dusting powder becomes part of your body chemistry — and yes, people will ask what you’re wearing.
