500 days in a row of #dutchlearning with @duolingo and I’ve come a long way since #ikbeneenappel! Still nowhere near where I’d like to be, but that comes with more practice and immersion. Swipe to see examples of my current lessons. I’ve only been teaching myself in my limited spare time. I’m lucky if I can fit in 15-20 minutes a day, unfortunately, or I might learn quicker. I do try to supplement with music and videos where I can, but it’s still difficult for me to form sentences I’m satisfied with on the fly and quickly enough in written conversation, due to my annoying tendencies towards perfectionism. I don’t think I have any problems with pronunciation but a native could probably judge that better than I can. I saw an interesting video that suggested I should approach conversation in the same way a baby does, and it gave me something to think about. Hey, apparently I did something well in 2021. Here’s my #Duolingo365 aka #DuolingoUnwrapped. 😂🦉🇳🇱 I focused solely on learning Dutch this year in my spare time. I had just dropped German by this time last year, because it was too close to Dutch and I kept favoring the Dutch way of speaking and spelling words that were very similar. I was early enough into both lessons to recognize that it’d be a problem learning both at the same time. It still trips me out when I hear something in German and I can actually kind of understand it. 😆 I only used my existing Spanish knowledge to grab the #1 Diamond League spot quickly, to win in a fight down to the last seconds, no exaggeration. This woman wanted to fight me for that title till the very end, for DAYS, and I won because I could spell and translate quicker in Spanish than in Dutch at that point, probably in January, so still early on. I haven’t touched it since. 😂 Feel free to add me on @duolingo if you like.
