Scene. What happens when we lose our jeeps to privatization? You know that the decision to “modernize” in the way that #Duterte pushes it is all wrong when what it promises as fact is that existing jeepney drivers and operators will have to go into debt — will have NO CHOICE but to go into debt — so that transnational corporations can make huge profits on a public service such as transport. There is absolutely no reason to believe that this is the only way to make jeeps safer and greener. It’s really just that government would rather be unkind, would rather kowtow to big business, and really couldn’t care less if jeepney drivers and their families — in the words of the President — die of hunger.
