‘Dutt Plug’ lands in Darlinghurst
A new piece of street art depicting Opposition Leader Peter Dutton as a butt plug has appeared in Sydney, just days before Australians head to the polls.
The mural, painted by controversial street artist Scott Marsh, portrays Dutton as a sex toy named “The Dutt Plug”.
“Pre-lubricated with corporate influence,” words on the mural read.
“Made from 100% recycled campaign tropes.
“Guaranteed backdoor deals.”
Reddit user ‘Broomfondl3’ commented: “Right where he belongs, in the shi**er.”
The mural covers the wall of a Victorian-era terrace house in Darlinghurst’s Liverpool Lane.
It’s located a short walk from Oxford Street, long considered the ‘main street of LGBTQIA+ Australia’ and home to the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.
Marsh’s murals
Marsh has a long history of lampooning political and social figures, particularly from the conservative side of the fence.
Many have related to the LGBTQIA+ community issues or figures related to the community.
In 2017, during the marriage equality debate, Marsh painted a mural of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott marrying himself.
He told Triple-J’s The Hack the mural was a statement on Abbott’s opposition to same-sex marriage.
“When Tony Abbott released that video promoting the ‘No’ vote, you could almost hear the whole country going, ‘What the f**k?’” Marsh said.
“Personally if there’s one thing that Tony Abbott’s been shown to love, it’s Tony Abbott.”

Another mural, on the wall of the Botany View Hotel in Newtown, depicted Tony Abbott and the late Catholic Cardinal George Pell as lovers.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that it was later painted over by three “religious dudes”.
Marsh completed several other murals of George Pell around Sydney, usually referencing child abuse allegations surrounding the anti-gay cardinal.
Other notable works include “Saint George”, a 20-foot-tall mural of the late gay pop superstar George Michael, located on Bray Street in inner city Erskineville.
