Generic Cymbalta Capsules belongs to a class of medications called Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SNRI). Generic Cymbalta Capsules are used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain (DPNP), Fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain. It is available as Dulot capsules ( Lupin Ltd. ), Duzela capsules (Sun Pharma) and Duvanta tablets (Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd). The active ingredient present in Generic Cymbalta is Duloxetine. Duloxetine Capsules are also available under brand names such as Ariclaim, Xeristar, Yentreve, Duzela, Dulane, Cymbalta, and Cymgen (in South Africa).
Dosage And Administration
Generic Cymbalta comes as an oral Capsules in 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg and 60 mg dosage forms. Take Generic Cymbalta once daily, with or without food. Swallow Generic Cymbalta capsules whole; do not crush or chew, do not open the capsule. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at the same time. The recommended adult Oral dosage of Generic Cymbalta is given below: Dosage for Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Starting Dose: 40mg/day to 60mg/day Target Dose Acute Treatment: 40 mg/day (20 mg twice daily) to 60 mg/day (once daily or as 30 mg twice daily); Target Dose Maintenance Treatment: 60 mg/day Dosage for Treatment of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain (DPNP): Starting Dose: 60mg/day Target Dose: 60 mg/day (once daily) Dosage for Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Starting Dose:60mg/day Target Dose: 60 mg/day (once daily) Dosage for Treatment of Fibromyalgia (FM): Starting Dose:30mg/day Target Dose: 60 mg/day (once daily) Dosage for Treatment of Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: Starting Dose: 30mg/day Target Dose: 60 mg/day (once daily)
Generic Cymbalta Capsules - Contraindications
Use of Generic Cymbalta is contraindicated to treat patients with the following conditions:
The use of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) to treat psychiatric disorders with Generic Cymbalta or within five days of stopping treatment with Generic Cymbalta is contraindicated because of an increased risk of serotonin syndrome. Additionally the use of Generic Cymbalta within 14 days of stopping an MAOI intended to treat psychiatric disorders is also contraindicated.
Starting treatment with Generic Cymbalta in a patient who is being treated with MAOIs such as linezolid or intravenous methylene blue is also contraindicated because of an increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Generic Cymbalta Capsules are contraindicated in patients with ahypersensitivity to Duloxetine or any inactive ingredient present in generic Cymbalta capsules.
Side Effects of Generic Cymbalta Capsules
The common side effects reported in patients treated with Generic Cymbalta Capsules with an occurence rate of 5% or more and at least twice that of placebo include nausea, dry mouth, somnolence, fatigue, constipation, decreased appetite, and hyperhidrosis
