This episode of Policy & Advocacy in Action explores the themes in the paper Colonization, Homelessness, and the Prostitution and Sex Trafficking of Native Women by Christine Stark and Eileen Hudon, which discusses human trafficking of Native women and girls, with particular attention to the historical context in the United States and the interconnection between trafficking and housing instability. Chris discusses the findings and contemporary application with the input of Jessica Smith, an advocate at Breaking Free in Minnesota.
Immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and human trafficking face unique challenges when accessing and maintaining safe housing, many of which have been exacerbated by COVID-19. Here, we clarify some misconceptions about immigrant survivors’ eligibility for housing and homeless assistance, as well as provide resources and tools with more detailed information supporting advocacy on behalf of immigrant survivors.

A domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy organization in northwestern Wisconsin has lost $25,000 in funding from Barron County for it's support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Several regional law enforcement agencies have also cut ties with the group as a result.
