The golden years of French cinema with such directors as François Truffaut are long gone. All you can hope for is an occasional good movie.
The name that usually comes up when you look for a meaningful director is François Ozon.
So far, “Jeune et Jolie” (“Young and Beautiful”) (2013) is the only movie of his I saw.
It must be the rawest coming-of-age film you can watch.
But no spoilers: if I told you what it’s about, you would no longer be willing to see the movie - which you should.
Every detail in Ozon’s screenplay is just right, he doesn’t judge his main character for even a second and Marine Vacth, a French model, carries the entire film on her shoulders.
Impressive!
