The Mechanisms and what Fears from TMA they would be susceptible too/avatars of
First TMA and first mechs post, hi guys,
This is a concept i've thought about for a bit, I wrote most of this list a bit ago, but have recently given it a second thought as I relisten to TMA :3 (right at the end of 51 as of writing this)
There's no real order to this list I kinda just wrote what I felt like when I wrote it, im going off the order I went when I originally wrote these down though
Johnny D'Ville
Slaughter - This man would fucking LOVE the slaughter, putting him in that one slaughter domain from s5 would be his Disneyland lets be real. He would absolutely be a slaughter avatar the slaughter would feast so well on his actions.
Lonely - On the flip side, the fear that would affect Johnny the most in my opinion is the Lonely. Especially if its after Nastya's death (because I love them being siblings, that's his sister your honor) I imagine with the rest of the mechs they're all friends (or his lover of the week) (big fan of poly mechs in the way they're constantly changing around who they're actually with at any given time), but a real genuine emotional bond? What I've gotten vibes wise from Johnny is that he would rather shoot whoever tries to get him to talk then tell them anything about his proper feelings, Nastya was probably the only one he would actually talk too. And, well, she's gone. Ashes is maybe the only other one who could get something out of him? But they've both got their own issues with trust and emotional openness. I am so attached to this idea for him though, god.
Gunpowder Tim
Hunt - I'll say this, it's mostly based on Gunpowder Tim v. The Moon Kaiser, but the vibes of his post Bertie crash out gave major Hunt avatar vibes. I can absolutely see Slaughter mixing in as well as is typical in war settings, but with it partially being about revenge and him getting more people involved with it (like a pack) It seemed MUCH more like a hunt moment. Tim would be a great hunt avatar.
Ashes O'Reilly
Desolation - I don't think I have to go into detail about why Ashes would be a Desolation avatar. Ashes would love the desolation at least from an aesthetic level. I don't think they'd fuck with the church of the lightless flame though. Ashes doesn't give, would want to be in a cult vibes.
Web - This one might seem odd to say right away. but hear me out. As shown in UDAD, Ashes can and will get involved as a leader behind the scenes of things. Plus, the whole origin story with being a member of the mafia, even if they weren't the leader, they likely did have power and control within it given their closeness to the leader. I don't know, web wouldn't be *perfect* I'll give you that, but I think they'd at least vibe with the web, but the web would have to seek them out they wouldn't seek it out if it wanted to make them into its avatar, if that makes sense.
Spiral - Ashes would have appreciation for the lies and deceit part, but probably wouldn't be too susceptible or be an avatar.
Ivy Alexandria
Eye - Do I need to even say it? She is prime Archivist material, she is an Archivist! Shes the ships Archivist! I don't think Ivy could be an avatar of anything else!
Spiral - Ivy's lost memories and her feelings around that would probably make her more susceptible to the spiral, an aspect of the Spiral is your mind lying to you, memory loss fits that pretty well. Stranger and Lonely also fit on a smaller level with that too, but the one fear I think Ivy really would need to watch out for is this one.
Toy Soldier
Stranger - Gotta get the connection to Orsinov out of the way, TS being non human would make others at least feel this fear towards them. Plus the whole, stolen vocal chords thing.
Slaughter - Toy Soldier, as of GPTvTMK, finds war "Jolly Good Fun!", TS in a similar vein to Johnny would willingly be a slaughter avatar.
Drumbot Brian
Vast - With the multiple times Brian ends up in the vastness of space... He would be susceptible to it I think, but I think Brian as a Vast Avatar would go so hard
Lonely - Related to the Vast one, he ends up in space Alone (Lost in the Cosmos), can't be great and that would also make him susceptible to the Lonely. I think he's less likely to go full avatar of this one though.
End - His prophetic powers make me think of Oliver Banks (why did I write Antonio Blake in my google doc I literally was well in s4 by that time what) every instance of its use has ended bad, because no one listened to his warning. By bad that means in at least Some death. HNOC at least 600 people did! so! Yeah more then the vast I think Brian would fit End avatar very well.
Nastya
Stranger - Nastya would 100% be susceptible to the Stranger, her whole thing with Aurora's "death" gives major 'would fear the Stranger' vibes. I don't think I need to even go into detail its perfect
Raphaella la Cognizi
Flesh - In the way that she is a scientist and would be so incredibly fascinated, she would probably end up being manipulated into becoming an avatar because of this
Corruption - Similar to the flesh, it helps both of these are very physical fears, they're ones you can put under a microscope and observe, she would love to observe them
Marius Von Raum
I'm gonna be real, hes the only one I don't have any idea for at all, he's too whimsical cartoon character in my mind to fear things and to be an avatar of the fears
I invite discussions about this and I'll add in ones I like if anyone else has any ideas (with credits of course)
And, of course an obligatory Lyfrassir Edda is a mechanism after TBI moment, I wrote one for them for fun
Lyfrassir Edda
Desolation - Dude they lost their whole world, they would be SOOOOO susceptible to the Desolation, I didn't think of this originally when I wrote the doc but this one is so???? obvious????? huh????????
Spiral - Their world ended in rainbow madness, Lyf would not like the spiral at the very least
Lonely - Being the last survivor of an entire species and solar system will really make you feel lonely won't it?
Extinction - The system ended because of Odin, people's actions leading to the end of the species??? That's so very Extinction.
Eye - In the way that I think Lyfrassir Edda would be a Great Archivist. Lyf is susceptible to 4 fears, and already was seeking out knowledge through the Black Box, and is a detective which in my opinion is a role that naturally does lean towards the eye since your digging out secrets and whatnot. Lyf honestly (maybe its just how Johnny played him but) gave me Jon vibes so I absolutely could see Lyf in a universe where they end up as the Archivist.
And that's all the ideas I have, like I said with the marius section, I invite discussion and will be giving gold stars (features here) to anything I see that I think needs to be seen :3
If I was not in fact the first person to do this erm... I promise I wasn't actually inspired by anything I saw, I have an AU where the mechs and the fears would interact, so thought I should make a list of this kind of thing (I will post about it here, eventually... i'm still developing it, but just know it involves Johnny D'ville being Jon, Ashes being Basira and Toy Soldier losing its vocal chords!
Also Martin as a mechanism, for those who want to see that :3 I know I don't post on tumblr a whole lot, so erm.... follow me if you want.........
