Design VIP program produces video introduction to volunteering in the national parks
One of the unique volunteer opportunities available at Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco is a program called "Design Volunteers in Parks,"an innovative program which works in collaboration with students from the Academy of Art University, R/GA, and Ex'pression College." The program helps students connect with the natural and cultural resources of their national parks while demonstrating skills in new media design in projects created for the National Park Service. The DVIP program has just released this video introduction to volunteering in the national parks. It's a great video to share with anyone who might be considering becoming a volunteer!
DVIP: Volunteers In Parks Orientation Video from G Su on Vimeo. Two winters ago, Three Moon Bay video company donated a similar production to Mount Rainier National Park, called "Mount Rainier National Park: the 21st Century Volunteer." Like the DVIP video, it focuses on our local park while conveying the message of volunteerism in national parks generally. That video occupies a permanent place at the bottom of this blog page, and a shorter, 30-second teaser featuring Shelton Johnson of Yosemite National Park is in the upper right. You can also enjoy all of our videos on our YouTube and Vimeo channels!
If you are in the Iowa City area, these will be available at the PS1 Holiday sale this Saturday Dec. 10th. All proceeds will go to the Domestic Violence Intervention Program @dvipiowa . Come help support a good cause and snag a cozy sweater❗️ - For those not in the area, I will have a couple of these up for auction Friday. Let's me know your favorites and maybe you'll see it up tomorrow😜 - #acrylics #acrylagouache #paintoncanvas #catsweater #poppysweater #plantsweater #owlsweater #wishthesewerereal #dvip #auction #minipaintings #miniswrater #ooak #originalpainting #traditionalart #traditionalpainting #baotpham #baophamart #baopham #paintforgood #catsofinstagram #owlsofinstagram #leafpainting #ferns
I’m Raising Money
I thought I’d make this into a separate post away from the story as well.
As most of you know, I’ve been taking part in a four-week business/activity course. Part of week three involves creating an action plan to raise money and awareness for an issue that needs addressing. As part of my action plan, I am helping a charity called the DVIP who help victims who suffer from domestic violence. The majority of you don’t know this, but I have my own experiences with abuse and I can say with clarity that it can really, really mess a person up.
I’m going to be raising money by doing writing and art commissions. If you guys want to give me a prompt, I will write a story for you at £1 per page. If I reach £10 within the next few days, I’ll post another chapter of Everything and Nothing for everyone as a thank you. Alternatively, I can create a digital avatar for you for £5. (Some of my artwork can be found here). If some of you wish to do this and support my cause, please drop me a message and I can discuss with you what happens next.
If you could also like the Facebook page that my group and I have set up, we would be extremely grateful. You can find the page here.
Please help me out guys, this issue is really close to my heart and it would mean a lot to me if you guys could support me while I do this. I’ll only be doing this for two weeks, so please, if you’re interested please drop me a message on here. Please spread this post too so that I can reach more people to help raise money.
Thank you guys, I love you all!
VOICES OF THE SILENCED
April 24, 2013 - 8:00pm
Prairie Lights Café
Please join us at our open mic night for Violence Against Women, with music, story, and poetry performances.
This will be a supportive space for individuals to share their concerns and experiences in the hopes of empowering ourselves to craft a change for women everywhere. This event is FREE and will be sponsored by the Rape Victim Advocacy Program, the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, the Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa, and Iowa United Nations Association. All donations will be given to these organizations to expand their impact on improving violence against women.
Please note: We understand that this is a very serious and, at times, an emotionally painful topic to discuss. We will have advocates from RVAP and DVIP available during and after the event to process with any individuals that may become triggered or overwhelmed by this topic. Our hope is to create a space that is safe, intimate, and empowers us to discuss violence against women in a way that sparks change and hope for our future.
All genders welcome! FREE event! Interested in performing? Bring a piece to perform that is under 7 minutes and come to Prairie Lights at 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 24th to discuss order of performers. We hope to see you there! Spread the word! The Prairie Lights Cafe will donate 10% of the proceeds of the evening to DVIP. 10% of book sales will be donated to RVAP.
