Malcolm regrets few things in life. He has learned that regret solves nothing. He can’t go back and change what has already happened, nor can he turn that regret into anything useful. So when he does have regrets, things are serious.
He regrets not answering his cell phone the night Rebecca died. He regrets not keeping Tommy safe when the Undertaking began. He regrets using Thea in his plan to end Ra’s al Ghul. But other than that... there isn’t much.
Until now. Now, he’s traveling through time as a member of the Legion of Doom. And they’ve just acquired a powerful weapon to add to their arsenal: The Winter Soldier.
They’d managed to capture James Buchanan Barnes and activate his programming, so now the Winter Soldier sits before Malcolm, silent.
His partners are attending to other business, so he’s volunteered to stay behind and watch their new asset. But really, he’s staying because he feels guilty. He regrets not leaving the Legion sooner and allowing them to turn his almost-friend into a weapon again.
So he attends to the soldier’s every need, knowing he won’t ask for much. He sets a plate of food before the man and gestures to it. “Eat. You must be hungry.”
