Consider: Pyrrha says to Wake’s revenant “Kill me all you like, just tell me the truth” and then ends up killing Wake to spare her having truth dragged out of her by God. Without Pyrrha herself having any idea what the fuck was going on.

Consider also that Wake’s unhinged raving letters in Harrow’s River bubble include a reference to Pyrrha asking her for something (“the first time I died I ask of him what I now ask of you”) and then later suggests that what Pyrrha asked for was a quick death (“him I will kill quickly because she asked me to”, with him being likely Gideon the First and therefore his death being the same as Pyrrha’s death), and then when Pyrrha walks into Wake’s interrogation, Wake looks at her with an expression that Gideon describes as the way you look at someone “whose presence meant total reprieve” and the reprieve Pyrrha gives her is a quick death, in the form of a bullet to the head that blasts her soul out of Cytherea’s body.

Like is it possible Pyrrha had some larger political motive for taking Wake out of the equation before the conversation could continue? Yeah for sure. But also. The vibes.

Hi so to add “unhinged romantic story symmetry” to my growing file of circumstantial evidence that the Resurrection Beasts can’t kill Lyctors and everything has been fake: Gideon loved Pyrrha and killed her, and Gideon loved Wake and killed her, and Wake loved Pyrrha and Gideon and did her goddamned best to kill them (incinerator scene), and Pyrrha loved Wake and killed her, and I just think it would be neat if Muir closed the triangle by revealing that Pyrrha who loved Gideon killed him somehow in the River.

Griddlehark is intrinsically unsexy because neither party has ever committed an act of “love” that the other person consented to. Pyrrha Dve on the other hand is on record as consenting to be murdered by her lovers at least three separate times (it didn’t take) and has killed at least one of them back in a clearly welcome romantic gesture, and I think she deserves more attention for this.

Has anyone included Pyrrha’s line to Wake’s revenant spirit, “I would know you...as a shadow smudged against the wall, annihilated by light”’ in the list of evidence that Wake died for the first time in whatever catastrophe took out the Earth and Sun?

I have so many questions about their relationship. Wake knew she was fucking two different people. Pyrrha knew Wake was fucking two different people. Gideon didn’t. Did Wake agree to keep that a fucking secret? Or did they just never talk, only had sex, so it never came up? I’m like 80% certain that the first time Wake came onto Gideon she thought it was Pyrrha, or possibly thought Pyrrha had always been Gideon (“later I would kiss him too before I understood what you were”), and somehow that did not tip Gideon off?? Like. Your arch enemy starts making out with you as though you have done this many times before and you don’t ask any questions? The implications that has about his personality!

I just want to be clear that I’m aware there’s no moral wiggle room on Pyrrha Dve. She’s clearly an unthinkably bad person and is in fact the founder of Space Fantasy CIA. She’s just also been mostly dead for ten thousand years and she says things like “she was the most dangerous woman I ever met who wasn’t me” so I’m allowed to be a little bit obsessed, I think.

That's a really interesting theory! If RB's can't kill Lyctors, what do you think has been really happening? Did they all defect (like Cassiopeia, who definitely defected to BOE and probably isn't dead) or have they all killed each other?

I agree that God seems to have lied about almost everything but on some level the Heralds do pose a very real and tangible threat and the RB's maybe do as well - we can at least trust Gideon's pov of the Heralds.

What do you think has been really happening?

I do really like the symmetry of the Pyrrha/Wake/Gideon murder triangle.

I just got into this here but I’m fairly sure Gideon1 is the only Lyctor who has been described as being actually killed by a Resurrection Beast. And even Gideon1 only got killed in soul form. I don’t remember any reference to a Herald ever physically killing a Lyctor. Everyone else got sucked to hell or into a black hole or experienced other shenanigans.
