Consider: Pyrrha says to Wake’s revenant “Kill me all you like, just tell me the truth” and then ends up killing Wake to spare her having truth dragged out of her by God. Without Pyrrha herself having any idea what the fuck was going on.

Consider also that Wake’s unhinged raving letters in Harrow’s River bubble include a reference to Pyrrha asking her for something (“the first time I died I ask of him what I now ask of you”) and then later suggests that what Pyrrha asked for was a quick death (“him I will kill quickly because she asked me to”, with him being likely Gideon the First and therefore his death being the same as Pyrrha’s death), and then when Pyrrha walks into Wake’s interrogation, Wake looks at her with an expression that Gideon describes as the way you look at someone “whose presence meant total reprieve” and the reprieve Pyrrha gives her is a quick death, in the form of a bullet to the head that blasts her soul out of Cytherea’s body.

Like is it possible Pyrrha had some larger political motive for taking Wake out of the equation before the conversation could continue? Yeah for sure. But also. The vibes.

Hi so to add “unhinged romantic story symmetry” to my growing file of circumstantial evidence that the Resurrection Beasts can’t kill Lyctors and everything has been fake: Gideon loved Pyrrha and killed her, and Gideon loved Wake and killed her, and Wake loved Pyrrha and Gideon and did her goddamned best to kill them (incinerator scene), and Pyrrha loved Wake and killed her, and I just think it would be neat if Muir closed the triangle by revealing that Pyrrha who loved Gideon killed him somehow in the River.

After reading Gideon the Ninth I was like, well, it’s obvious that Gideon’s “mother” wasn’t naming a baby when she screamed a name three times before vanishing into the abyss, but IDK if she was screaming the name of a love interest or someone she badly wanted to kill or the person chasing her when she died. Well.

Griddlehark is intrinsically unsexy because neither party has ever committed an act of “love” that the other person consented to. Pyrrha Dve on the other hand is on record as consenting to be murdered by her lovers at least three separate times (it didn’t take) and has killed at least one of them back in a clearly welcome romantic gesture, and I think she deserves more attention for this.

Speaking of reading into obscure references in Harrow the Ninth: Pyrrha Dve told BOE about what the Heralds do to necromancers. Do we have consensus on this? Or is this one just me.

(Do I have an unsuppressable unreasonable desire for a Pyrrha Dve redemption arc? Yes. Is that influencing my reasoning? Probably yes. But I also think it’s the most chaotic and convoluted-betrayal-filled option on the table which means it’s practically confirmed canon.)
