the loud thumping of a basketball echoes nearby, the guitarist being the first of the pair to strenuously search for the source of the sound. behind a thin fence of intertwined wires --- rusted by time --- two teenage boys are at it, vigorously taking up most of the sports field in their game. a tall, skinny boy alike jae struggles to steal the ball from his much shorter and plumper friend, but eventually trips down (note: on his untied shoelaces) and scraps his knee against the coarse ground.
“it’s like i’m looking in a mirror i swear. that used to be me at school during p.e. tough times, i got in a few accidents too.” as if remnants of whatever past injuries still linger inside of him, a hand lowers above his stomach, grabbing at his own sweater without much controlled thought. “i bet you’re like the big boy over there, tho haven’t really seen you doin’ anything like it. but dunno, you don’t seem like that much of a loser.” it’s the remark of his friend which has jae in laughter, the point in which the pair of idols is finally noticed by the boys now catching their breath, the undecided score leaving a sour, yet confused look on their faces.
“so what if i compared you with that wide kid over there? have you seen his moves? he’s a natural! wanna join them? doubt the boys are in a rush, the sun ain’t down yet.”
far too many cans of beer are stuck in his backpack right now, cool and dripping, turning the innards of the rucksack into a mini-fridge, the low temperature turning his back numb at this point. tempting. whether he stays behind a few more minutes for a quick basketball game or rushes with derek back to the dorm for day6′s and tko’s night together, jae’s up for anything. “okay fine, i’m gonna leave the decision in your hands. the guys won’t die without us though, will they? ‘cause we got the drinks, mate, that’s like stealing water and air from them.”
