One of the 3 people living in the underground who have seen the surface (realllllly old) so has ended up with some of the strongest effects from the barrier. Her hp, once in the thousands has sunk down to only 5. due to the state of her hp (and therefore her soul) her magic is also a lot weaker than it once was although she can still put up a good fight if necessary and should not be underestimated. She has also lost her sight, normally she uses a cane but a small while dog has occasionally been seen helping her. She lives in the ruins like cannon toriel :)

toriel is well known for her amazing baking even outside of the ruins where most monsters think she is dead, many have tried and failed to recreate her famous pie recipe but it never seems to match up to the real thing. one of only 3 people underground who knew what life was like on the surface still surviving. the barrier blinded her as well as some other things that you find out soon >:)
alphys role as the royal scientist is a lot more medical in this au, mostly trying to solve the effects caused by the barrier and taking care of those worse off. after seeing how the barrier effected humans slower and weaker due to determination levels she thought that determination would be a cure, or would at least slow down the effects on monsters- this lead to the amalgamates. The barrier made alphys melt, not quite to the same extent of the amalgamates she mostly stays roughly lizard looking.
