Sometimes, you felt like your whole life was a lie, a big joke some twisted bastard came up with. Deceit had always seemed to completely surround you wherever you went, and you always longed for people to be truthful with you.

Then came Pein and his promises of a new world. He was honest with you from the start, he didn’t lie, though you knew that he kept secrets from you.

He gave you the best job you could hope for.

Being an interrogator was great. You had the freedom to do what you wanted with those you talked to, and you almost always got a straight answer. You were scary, after all, and most people knew better than to lie to somebody with a sentient man-eating sword.

And those who lied to your face often came to regret it.

For this, you’d become loyal to Pein. You respect him and his vision, his idea of a world of truth. Maybe then you’d actually be able to figure out your own life.

The two of you rarely spoke, as he often gave orders through Konan. But this time was different. He just came to talk, and you were wary of him. It was rare for you to relax and hang out at the headquarters, and even rarer for Pein to come to you about anything but work. But still, he sat next to you and talked with you, and you enjoyed it.As always, he was honest and straight forward, and you appreciated his words. You hardly even noticed that the show you’d been watching had ended its credits, too wrapped up in conversation for it.

Times like this reminded you that you did not ever really believe in the concept of “God”, but you would still follow this one to the end.
