[ID: 3 photos of small linen pieces dyed various colors, the first primarily yellow-tans with 3 dark grey-brown pieces, the second is warm ocher yellows of various depths and a couple dark greens, the third of mottled purple-blacks and tan-grays /end ID]

first two pics are yarrow and dandelion with various mordants and modifiers and the third is playing around with iron over tannin. really happy with all the shades that came out & that nothing went catastrophically wrong for these being my first goes at natural dyeing :-)

#natural dyeing #dye tag #<- new tag just dropped for my bs #its linen that im planning on using for cross stitch. so very functional tests lol #need a better label method than pinning scraps of paper on em but if it works it works yknow #mostly followed what wild color by jenny dean said and made up a couple things for the modifiers bc i didnt want to make bulk solutions #& well powdered gall nuts are different that whole gall nuts so. made that whole bit up.#think my faves are tannin/copper dandelion and tannin/copper dandelion iron #(top right and first on the 4th row of second image)#copper mordant really just made some nice vivid colors #and tannin iron is SO cool and fun im obsesessd with them and want to try more bs with it its such a purple tone its unreal #also super fun how iron mordant made more pastel shades but iron modifier will kill anyone and everyone (affectionate)

also btw. i looked in my book again and dahlia stems and leaves make nice greens (my favorite color) and we're heading into fall which means wintering the bulbs (cutting off everything but the bulb) so its free real estate :-)

#we have like 4.. ones small but the other 3 are so big thats a lot of weight of dyestuff....#otherwise beyond the hibiscus most of what we have growing just makes similar kinda green-yellows which is fine lol but the variety...#& like i can buy dyestuffs online for like reds and clearer yellows and actual browns so its no big deal #dye tag

hate preparing flowers for drying T-T but necessary evil for plant dyeing ig....

#theyre just pot plants and like. 3 to a pot so theyre nice planters so its not like there is much to harvest from each at any given time #esp sucks that leaves can be used for dyeing too but yuo have to take them off for drying ://#for most of these plants anyway #dye tag
