The demon canted his head to the side. “Li'l Andy fell down the hole. Hit 'er head and bruised 'er soul.” Again came his laughter and he rocked back on his heels away from her. His laugh continued, filling the room and chilling Andy right down to her core.
Then the laughter stopped and the grin was gone from his face. A more serious expression replaced it. “Get it?”
She swallowed, uncertain of an immediate response. He was mad, that much was clear. Gods, what was she doing here? Of all the bad ideas, this was right at the top. Holding her head high, Andy managed a small smile. “Yeah. Lewis Carroll. Or, actually, paraphrasing Lewis Carroll. But I get it.” She didn't think she really did.
