no one cares but I would love to talk about why apart from thame and po i also have big feelings for dylan specifically.
i think in media like this it's also fun to interpret what is not shown through what is shown. especially when it comes to characters and the way they feel.
From Dylan's story, or whatever bits we got of it, in the beginning Thame pulled him close because that's his nature and they were in a group so as the leader he had to befriend the new guy. And they bonded over music. but that wasn't all.
They also happen to have bonded over being at least distanced from their families to an extent.
and i guess those few days were what really helped dylan come out of his shell because not only did he get closer to thame, after that he also joined their group sleepover in the living room.
because thame asked them to make space for him, i guess it wasn't usual for him to join
and perhaps joining them had a lot to do with his own fears, and i guess he finally thought he had found people who would help him face his fears
Hong also said in an interview (that i can't find rn) that Dylan is a character who has many doubts about himself and can't actualise his dreams because of fears.
he is angry, impulsive, yes. but what we don't consider is anger, after isolation, is his defence mechanism born out of probably the same things that makes thame such a self sacrificer. he tries to hide that he is very quick to get hurt. he is independent but he's scared of thunder and he just wants a home.
the betrayal he felt was made of the anxiety of being pushed out of him. he depended on thame a lot and probably did not believe he would have any chance to stay in the group without him and seeing as to how everyone else wanted to leave too, he did not know what to do to stay so he chose to hurt, to close himself off and pretend it did not matter. what thame says here, that he wants to give him a home is just the slightest misunderstanding he shows because I don't think dylan ever wanted a home as much as mars.
because this home, this family he chose, is as important to dylan as it is to thame. this is why thame says as well... that mars wouldn't be mars without him. dylan loves mars as hard as thame.
