I'd like to add to the pile of Viktor-poking-holes-in-the-condoms-to-babytrap-jayce discussion that this entire scene entails by pointing out this line that viktor says because you can read it so many ways:

Viktor is trying to get Jayce to reminisce about their time together, specifically, when they first snuck into Heimerdinger's office the night they created hextech (and I'm sure whatever they got up to in that 7 year gap). what's fun is Jayce does acknowledge that, yes yes I know BUT you aren't about to catch me slipping in nostalgia lube today, harlot.

viktor's response can be compared to those conversations ex's that aren't over each other might use to, like, claim ownership or whatever??? to prove they still have weight in the other person's life by bringing up shared knowledge?? "you used to like when I did that"/ "you weren't complaining back then" etc. with the plus that this is being done in FRONT OF mel too lmao like girl get up!!!

kinda unrelated, but he, a zaunite, is bragging to 2 (albeit immigrant but very much still privileging/passing) pilties about how knowledgable he is about their own institution. viktor hardly ever brags in the show at this point and this is the closest we get to it here cuz my mans was FEELING HIMSELF in this scene

i agree that if the roles were reversed viktor wouldn't have necromancied jayce BUT i do think there's some sauce in viktor giving into the hexcore and speedrunning the 'glorious evolution' bit 

listen. why wouldn't viktor just snap if jayce died and he can't destroy the hexcore anyway? why wouldn't the hexcore prey on him even more? the emotional crutch is now gone babe. piltover is trying to incite war with your hometown. the hexcore /did/ help

the bomb was deployed in part cuz of heartbreak and someone else losing what she thought was all she had left/emotional crutches. screw it, let's get rid of these things that cause human suffering. what else does viktor have to lose, too? let him become a nuke this time

what im getting at is if jayce died instead, i would want viktor to finally go ape shit. and maybe after, MAYBE, he can meet a ravine!jayce from another timeline to whack him out of it, as a treat. but I want him to riot in inescapable grief in the meantime yaknow

Kinda wild how Ekko essentially started off the beginning of the plot by following Jayce home and telling Vi about it, but then he also in many ways started off the end of the plot by telling Heimerdinger about his sick tree resulting in Heimerdiner sneaking them into his lab, running into Jayce, and Jayce leading them to the hexgate underground, which Jayce probably never would have visited otherwise, resulting in Jayce realizing what he needed to do to stop Viktor and Ekko creating the very thing needed to give Jayce that time back and saving everyone.

Never forget that Ekko is so so SO important
