Dzhokhar Dudayev
15 February 1944 – 21 April 1996, he was a Chechen politician, statesman and military leader of the 1990s Chechen independence movement from Russia. He served as the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria from 1991 until his assassination in 1996. Dudayev had previously served as a senior officer in the Soviet Air Forces.
"Russia will fall when Ukrainian sun rises" said the first President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhokhar Dudayev born on this day 79 years ago.
Ukraine became the first UN country to recognise the independence of Ichkeria on October 18 last year but the close relationship between the two peoples date back. There are stories of Ichkerians saving Ukrainian people from prosecution of the USSR government by hiding them in the mountains. Ukrainians were also one of the only nations to help Ichkerians in the two Chechen Wars waged by russia, reportedly operating one of the few tanks in disposal of the Ichkerian Armed Forced lead by Dudayev.
In 2014 after russia annexed Crimea and started active warfare in the East of Ukraine, the Free Caucasus organisation based in Denmark, where large numbers of Ichkerians have fled to after the Second Chechen War, formed the International Peacekeeping Battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudayev. Ichkerians have been at the frontlines of the russian-Ukrainian war ever since. From November 2022 they have been operating in Bakhmut, the deadliest battles now are happening there.

Nothing annoys me more recently than people using pictures from the Chechen Wars and calling it some kind of “warcore” aesthetics.
Like, this is internet aesthetics taken way too far. The Chechen Wars were one of the most brutal conflicts of the late 20th and early 21st century so far, and they basically led to a genocide of the Chechen people and burial of their hopes for independent Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, and people treat it like some kind of entertainment.
(Of course, using pictures, stories etc. from other wars for such purposes is equally wrong. I’m just mentioning the Chechen Wars here, because it seems like many people, especially ignorant Westerners, are using mostly pictures from this particular conflict for their “aesthetics”.)
As I said, here are some of the quotes of Dzhokhar Dudayev, the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, taken from his various interviews and compiled with the help of his wife into a book "Лицар Свободи" ("The Knight of Freedom").
About the UN:
"The multi-volume UN resolutions lie on the shelves and are not implemented in relation to the nations. And since the day this organization was founded, we have not heard a single thing in defense of the Chechen people during the worst repressions. About Budapest memorandum:
"Therefore, we need to turn to the UN to protect Ukraine, help it, protect it from sabotage. It’s better to let these nuclear weapons be in Ukraine than in Russia. About ruscism:

About peace between Ichkeria and Russia (compare it to Zelenskyy’s peace plan):

The importance of NATO for the European security:
