do you have any fave German movies + tv shows?
if so, what are they and why?
yesss definitely!! (sorry for answering late. life is A Lot™)
movies: - "Der Wixxer" & "Neues vom Wixxer" (those movies, along with cultural icon youtuber coldmirror, defined my sense of humour. they're so dumb but so good and i love them lots (haven't watched them in ages though, i hope they didn't age badly))
- "zwei Weihnachtsmänner" (THE christmas movie(s)!!! plain homoerotic christmas flick)
- Tatort (you might have seen Tatort posting on tumblr. I'll give you my favourite ones: "Es lebe der Tod" (Jens Harzer is PHENOMENAL in it, and Ulrich Tukur as Murot might just be my fav Tatort investigator, and this ep (movie) does so much for his character. a+ no notes); "Amour fou" (another one with Jens Harzer; this time he has a thing with Mark Waschke's character. what's not to love); "Meta" (Mark Waschke galore. Watching him do his thing is a blessing)
- "Urmel aus dem Eis" (2005) idk if this can be called a movie but i hold it very close to my heart and i started writing an 18+ fic a few years ago. Yes, it's an adaptation of a children's book. Mirja Boes and Ralf Schmitz are unbeatable in this thing. Also RIP Dirk Bach, your Urmel holds my heart 🩷
tv shows:
- "Dark" as soon as you've figured out the who is who, this series fucks severely
- Ku'damm 56/59/63 (and soon 77) watched the musical first which is one huge banger, then watched the show and damn. Many feelings.
- Deutschland 83/86/89 First of all the casting is ✨a dream✨ second of all as someone who grew up in what used to be west germany and has been living in east germany for almost 10 years now, this series made so many things clearer for me from a historical point of view. big recommendation
- "Die Discounter" mockumentary about working at a supermarket. Chef's kiss
- "4 gegen Z" very bad kids' show with a banger cast for some reason (Udo Kier????) but I became unreasonably obsessed with it at some point. That obsession tends to come back every couple of years. It's not my fault the villain's henchman and the heroes' mentor are soooo shippable
- "Verbotene Liebe" OKAY this is a hear me out. It's a soap that I used to skip school for to be able to watch the latest episode. It's not on air anymore but I was obsessed with it and you can watch all 6446 episodes on yt (still working my way through the old ones)
and last but not least i gotta say it: "Kacken an der Havel". Just came out on Netflix and it made me laugh a lot. Similar humour to Der Wixxer, i think.
I probably forgot a few but 🤷🏼 i don't have any brainpower left
