So the "friendship" that Curt and Marcus have is not healthy. Hasn't been healthy since... dear goodness, grade school? Marcus hates Curt and the feeling is largely mutual 😅 But their dads are close so they've been obligated to be friends. That sums up Curt's entire friend group, honestly: guys his dad wants him around. Marcus happens to be the most obnoxious and the most sensitive one in Curt's clique, but he's also the only one who Curt holds a real grudge against (for Reasons lol).

And the feelings on Marcus's end are sooooo on the cusp of closeted bisexual angst that my imagination tends to run wild. His hatred of Curtis is riiiiight on the edge of homoerotic rivalry and I love it 😆😆 Especially as senior year goes on... and especially if Curt starts running around, spending time with the New Kid 😆 Marcus is the type of enemy that needs his enemies' attention. He's liable to throw a tantrum, otherwise — you WILL notice him and you WILL acknowledge him.

what is it called when a writer has a headcanon about their own shit? when we've imagined something up that is 100% delightful (or whatever lol) but 100% not going in your final canon? is it still called a headcanon? is it a scrapped idea if you never planned on using it?? is it an artistic notion??? I was basking in the nostalgic glory of your Pinterest page and spotted some interesting new classmates I hadn't noticed before: Eddie, Eugene, Grodes (fantastic name for 'em! Automatic characterization), and Mason. Tumblr search is, well, Tumblr search and I couldn't find any mention of them on here. I think I've caught their general vibe(s) but I'd love to know more details if they're not too spoilery, please!

Eddie is a junior and Emerson Prep's school mascot. Super athletic, super dedicated to cheer, and super well-informed. Has a fierce, bitter rivalry with the cheer captain, Brooke. E Prep's resident snarky Meta Guy. his Pinterest

Eugene is E Prep's senior class president and biggest party animal. He barely takes his student gov't role seriously so neither does anyone else aside from the student council president. Wealthy slacker and maker of trouble on a straight path to frat brodom. his Pinterest

Grodes is another junior and the school's main drug dealer. He knows a lot of kids across grades for obvious reasons. Gets along with R and their friends, though they don't really hang out. Never quite shook his reputation as the gross kid. his Pinterest

Mason is the captain of E Prep's lacrosse team. He's a stuck-up brute known to never hold back a brutal opinion. Very wealthy and very smart in addition to being an excellent athlete. He's also Jessie's current boyfriend 😋 his Pinterest

are there any odd characters pairings you can't wait to write? I'm really curious to see how the friend group new kid can cultivate will come together, they all seem so different!

Yes, there are! So many actually. The obvious is Gabe and Kile, but I'm also fond of:

Gabe + Rain - because they have beef and Gabe doesn't know to handle it

Kile + Jessie - they get along better than you'd expect 🥰

Kile + Vi - Kile's low-key the annoyed bully of an older sibling of their dynamic, something Vi desperately needs

Jack + Rain - Rain is an intrepid explorer and Jack is their hapless companion; a leader and a follower in the best ways

Jessie + R - this is just a very sweet combo ok 🥺

Rain + Vi - two shorties of two wildly different temperaments... save for being excessively feisty and holding a steadfast belief that they always know what they're talking about. extra fun since Rain almost never does lol

and Heidi + Curt, to be honest! They're so different from one another, I don't even know where to start 😆 One of the 1st Semester electives the MC can take features them together, so everyone will eventually know what that looks like.

and then there's some combos with secondary characters like Heidi + Clair or Brooke + Eddie 🥰🥰🥰

I saw on Jack's board that he has D&D/polyhedral dice!! Will MC ever get to play 🧐 or maybe keep a D20 with them as a good luck charm! I keep a blue D8 in my pencil box actually and give it a good toss before exams lol
