e-portfolio hell
In other news, I officially entered e-portfolio hell today.
An e-portfolio is something library science students use to defend and demonstrate all the work they did in their degree. It can be used for future employers and it is done in place of a thesis.
I wanted to do a thesis, but with various family crises and my own health, I took all the time I would have needed for a thesis as time off from school, so now I am doing my e-port.
There is a lot that goes into an e-portfolio, but the problem that turns it into a true hell is trying to find all the projects you did in 14 classes. For me, this means finding things from 7 years ago. I did my best to hang onto every piece with fingernails and duct tape, through some 4 or 5 different "learning environments" (online systems where you'd put all your assignments and communicate with your professors, from which you had to scrape everything in a panic when they decided to upgrade to the next one).
And I am way behind starting this thing, because I've been so sick, so I just now finally worked through enough setup to get to that one assignment from 2008 that is somehow missing.
The hell?! I know it's on my hard drive somewhere. It has to be.
IT HAS TO BE, I TELL YOU.
THE TIME HAS COME
Gentle tumblr followers, the season I knew would come has, well, come.
It is E-PORFOLIO time.
What this means in human language is that in order to complete my MLIS (Masters in Library & Information Science), because I had to take so much time off being sick and whatnot, I will not be doing a thesis but instead will be doing this thing where I take every project I ever completed for this degree and some other stuff and explain why it counts towards the Fourteen Competencies of the degree. And then put it all on a webpage.
Unfortunately, since I had to drop out of my class at the end of last semester due to illness, I will simultaneously be taking another, last class, which is what I did not want to do, as well as trying to work a job and be, well, my regular disabled self.
What does this mean to you?
Whining. Lots of whining. If I even have the time to type up a whine.
Now, hopefully, this will all be a wonderful, life-affirming, intense but enjoyable process, which is what am trying to aim for. But I just wanted to whine a little ahead of time and let you folks know what's going on in my life.
post 5
Today I showed my group in class my E-portfolio, they liked it like me but they had some ideas so I'm going to try that in my new post next class.
Thank you for reading!
