During this month’s Community of Practice (CoP) webinar, participants will learn about the unique path Iowa has taken to increase employer engagement. David Mitchell and Michelle Krefft will explain how Iowa’s VR staff were trained to talk to employers effectively. Webinar participants will learn about concrete steps your state can take to increase employer engagement and the labor force participation rate of people with disabilities.

If you missed the ODEP webinar on June 14th, click here to access the recording.  This webinar was about the role of parental participation in effectively supporting people with disabilities.  As professionals, you may feel overwhelmed by your non-ending to-do-list.  Parents of children with disabilities share that same experience.  Sending a notice to a parent to come to a meeting is just another item on the list unless you make that invitation inviting.  In this session, the presenters talk about how to create a safety zone for families to gather their energies, overcome their fears and become partners with service providers.  Webinar objectives included:

  o   Learn quick and easy methods to connect with parents and families in minutes.

o   Discover how to empower families to become effective financial managers of their family member’s assets including a basic roadmap to the Medicaid waiver system.

o   Learn about the 10 things never to say to a parent.

o   Learn strategies for building sustainable and vibrant communities of support assisting with supported living and employment opportunities.
